I have been a loyal ebay member for 10 years mainly as a buyer,
over the last year I have been mainly a seller and boy its opened my eyes
for a start everything seems great then the more you sell the more you become vunerable to buyers, for any reason you end up the looser, I always post next day first class and if for any reason it does not arrive its my fault, I used to send a replacement but found out that was not the way as the first one really did arrive but the buyer knew how to work the system so I loose two items and still get a case against me and loose of course even though I have proof of postage.
So I now refund and cut my losses
Not sure if anyone else has had this but on the contact seller options I have more than once had the buyer contact me for whatever reason just click any of the options some have clicked not as described just to ask a question and as I understand it thats a big black mark against me when I point this out they just say oops sorry but the damage is done
then out of the blue got a message that I needed to respond to urgent from ebay 2.30am and it seems that because I didnt got suspended at 4am my crime seems to be I was asleep
looks like I will be joining up with you guys

ship with tracking numbers and delivery confirmation, its like when you go and buy something in a store and they give you a receipt, always have a paper trail saying that it got delivered and signed for, then there is never an issue. Sorry you had to learn the hard way

the Items I sell are low value £10-£20 and it seems royal mail proof of posting is worthless as it is not tracked
I send first class and only just cover my costs with p&p amount
how should I be doing it ?

charge your buyers the full cost for 1st class royal mail recorded then you get the tracking info

I know exactly what you are going through with posting without a tracking number...Most buyers are honest but there are alot who are not honest on ebay and whenever i send something without a tracking number in the UK or overseas,all the buyer as to do is make a claim for non delivery and all paypal do is ask for a tracking number and if you dont have one paypal gives the money back every single time to the buyer..Basically No tracking number gives the buyer the option to have the item for free...

There is a lil trick you can do with this....As soon as the buyer emails you asking you if you have posted there item yet...Dont answer the email..GO get there delivery address again and then repost it with a tracking number the very next day and put something in the envelope..I put some mascara in my one last time lol and it worked cos i knew it ****ed up the buyers intention of making a claim for non delivery lol
