Iphone Hotspot Help Please
 

Ive decided the best option for me is to use the iphone 4G as a hotspot and connect my chromebook to that.

My mrs needs to use the old rescricted ebay for purchases, so that can be used on the home wifi, so no connection.

I have a few questions.

The guide says every time you switch off 4G and then back again you get a new IP assigned by the ISP....im finding this isnt always true. Is there a time limit?

Could I be given recycled IP that I have used before with the old ebay (if I used 4G when the the home wifi was playing up!)

The IP numbers only change by the last digit, is this ok (im not tpp knowledgable I apologise).

Also is having mobile broadband with changing IP addresses a red flag at all

you sometimes will pull a repeated IP. In this case, it is not a bad thing if you are only using it for one account.

If you turn your 4g down to 3g, you will have many, many, many more IPs. Should be thousands and less likely to get a duplicate.

Your cell phone IPs are also used by other people and odds are, ALL IPs have once been used for other peoples ebay and paypal. Of course ebay and paypal know this so it is no big deal or problem at all. What is a problem is a history of crossed IPs. So account 1 used IP 000.00.001 and account 2 used 000.00.001 today. Then same consistent cross tomorrow etc.....

Won't it be ridiculously slow?

3g is perfectly suitable for ebay, email and paypal. Heck, you can stream netflix fine with 3g.

Yes it will.

I recommend you check out the 4g IP pool in your area before making the decision to switch to 3g for IPs.

i got better speed with 4g. Try to switch 4g and post your experience

you certainly did.......That is a very obvious statement. LTE will be magnitudes faster as well.

Now, you certainly got many less IPs and that is the point of this thread......

Excellent. I'm on this.
One other question, my phone has the ebay app, which I've used the blocked account on. If I remove the app and use the phone ONLY for hotspot and connect my chromebook to it, is this safe. So just using a "contaminated" iPhone for 3G/4G hotspot for new stealth account.

You can even leave the app on there but I would delete it..but if you use the phone as a hotspot alone you will be fine....also don't forget the whole logging of IP's.

Great. I'll delete the app just to be careful. I'm going to miss ker-Ching noises. Love those!!!!
