Its super easy to find a DNS server in any country you want with a google search, I never use google DNS on servers outside the US because of what your describing.
Sometimes private DNS server will go down, but you have a back up, If they both go down, you'll know it... Web pages wont load... Just find another two and replace them in your DNS Servers in your VPN config. Not a big deal...
You also want to make sure port 80 isn't open on the server... I'm just guessing you didn't fix that either...
Altho if you use SoftEther Server and SoftEther Client combo on Windows it wont show from what I remember. Possibably OpenVPN client too... You might want to check to be sure tho.
I always close port 80 in my set of iptables rules to secure the server when I build them so it been a long time since I connected to a VPN server that had an open port 80
But if you ever connect to the server using a L2TP/IPsec client, it'll show, that I know for sure.
