Mobile Broadband Only Static IP Address
 

I am following the stealth guide, andI bought a Virgin mobile broadband dongle, and an AT&T 3G usb dongle but they both only give static IP addresses, is that normal? and is it possible to change it? And which mobile broadband devices give dynamic IP addresses? If you could answer this, it would be a great help.

Yes, both devices respectively give the same IP addresses. It happened with the Virgin Mobile one first, so I went and got the AT&T 3G one, and it happened again.

I have Verizon, and Sprint. Sometimes Sprint will only cycle through 10-15 ip's depending on the device. Verizon works perfect, every time, without fail.

If you call the companies and ask them to remove the static ip code in the billing, they should be able to.

Do you have the aircards or the usb connect device? I called both companies, Virgin had no idea what I was talking about. The lady in India, actually told me to hold, while she googled it. And At&t said they aren't allowed to change from static to dynamic, but she didn't really know either. I have to say thanks for the new account also.

I had a similar problem with Vodafone, it cycled through 10-20 ips but I have since got onto 3G and works fine. I am not fimiliar with USA Mobile broadband providers but in the UK 3G seems to be the best.

I am thinking about getting the Verizon mobile broadband...does it give you different ip's everytime?

I thinks so. I finally got the At&t broadband to switch ip's after talking to about 3 customer service reps. But I'm not sure about Verizon, although most others on the forums say it does.

I have a Verizon USB modem and it changes IP's every time. It also changes the location that the IP comes from sometimes. So far it has shown that the IP has come from Tennessee, Alabama and Kansas. Yet I live in Idaho.

so i went with the palm pre as verizon is offering free tethering at the moment. should ease my ip changing issue and allow me to do the business on the road

yes, mobile ones are often static, my occasional laptop is on t-mobile and I can only use it for one account and general browsing.....we stealth people need to research ips before purchase..

Did the Virgin Mobile USB device at least give a different IP than the ATT? or did both devices give the same IP (the Virgin Mobile giving the same as the ATT)? Appreciate your reply....

Use verizon, it's faster, better, more reliable.

Virgin Mobile is dynamic according to OGe. Has there been any change? I've been debating buying the Virgin mobile one due to more GB than Verizon.

I don't know if they changed recently, but I had my Virgin Mobile as late as the beginning of this month, and it gave me a static IP address and was the same one each and every time. I now have an AT&T LG 3G usb dongle and it gives a static IP address, it is different every time.

I hope they didnt change it. Otherwise I'm stuck paying an outrageous price for Verizon broadband with way less GB. :pout:

outrageous price? 60 bucks a month.... jeez guys.... no offense, but thats not a bad investment if you sell on ebay

I was just about to buy the Virgin Mobile Prepaid. Anyone else know of prepaid cards that don't give one IP?

I am using Virgin Mibile, it has static ip....everytime you connect the ip is the same. Wasted my 100 bucks.... right now it seems only Verizon can offer dynamic ip

Damn and I'm glad this was here. I was seriously 10 minutes from getting a virgin 2 year contract. Dial-up is painfully slow. I just cant use it anymore... I have a top speed cable service already so this would have been for one purpose. And I came here to confirm I would get a new ip each connect on Virgin... Whew!
