Your OOL cable setup can easily hop IP address, if your hardware is average stuff.
First, if the modem they gave you has the router built into the modem (one combined unit), the easy way won't work. So if this is your situation, ignore the rest of this post.
If your router is one unit and your modem is another unit (2 separate devices), you have it easy.
1. unplug the power to the modem but leave the router on.
2. enter your router setup (usually from your browser http://192.168.1.1)
3. find the setup page that indicates your WAN MAC (not LAN MAC)
4. change the WAN MAC by 1 single digit. The very last digit in the MAC.
5. Save or apply the new MAC address.
6. Power off the router.
7. Power on the modem.
8. wait 10 seconds then power on the router.
9. wait 20-60 seconds for the two units to introduce themselves.
10. IP Chicken - Whats my IP address? ip address lookup to see what your IP is.
Note. If you are looking at your ip address from your ethernet status page, you are looking at the wrong IP address. Your computer has multiple IP addresses. The LAN IP, the HFC IP, the WAN IP, and possibly others depending on your hardware.
The only one that matters to you and stealth is the WAN IP.
