Default what if IP address changes a lot?

Hi there
I know how to change my IP address (more or less) by plugging in another router. I only have on internet connection. So I get a new IP with one router and MAYBE the same IP address on the other router that I had before but not all the time. Will that be a problem on my new account when the IP address sometimes changes? Thanks for your help again

To answer accurately, I would prefer to know what equipment you are using to access t'internet.
Generally speaking there should not be too much of a change,
Realize we all have different ways of approaching ebay, but you need to get down to specifics to get the best advise to beat them (& paypal)

I use the USB on my cable and it changes a lot. I also use dial up sometimes. Dial up changes constantly. It has not been a problem, yet. Some forms of internet access change ips, they have to work with that

IP is important. But its not a passport. Changing is ok, its using one that was on a bad account that's not.

If you are properly using different user accounts and your cookies are working properly you will be fine.

thanks so much. I have 3 computers and one internet access (a high speed) and one router on all the time. I have another router now and according to my husband it will give me a new IP. I just want to make sure that this time it goes o.k. I am sure the last time I got shut down was the IP and before that the telephone number. so this time I try not to get shut down!!! I know it may not work but at least I tried and will try again. thanks to all the help I am getting here I may make it work. thanks

First. Make sure you are keeping a solid log of ips used and where! Way too easy to accidentally reuse

Second: Depending on your setup and type of internet there may be easier ways to get new IPs. FIll us in on what you are using for modem and internet

I'm not familiar with that at all. But that sounds shared. That could be risky. It may really be worth getting your own cable internet. Dont want a good account to go down because of one of your neighbors

luna,

Do you use what you access this forum here with ebay at all? IP is static.

To be as safe as possible, create the excel file & use
What Is My IP Address? Lookup IP, Hide IP, Change IP, Trace IP and more...
OR
IP Burger - What is my IP Address? Find Your IP Address!

Develop a practice of logging IPs....almost as a religion. Well tis a religion, that of beating ebay AMEN

Yea, I'm not sure this happens all the time, but after changing a couple of times, some of them actually settles down to 1 IP per User Acc. while some of my other user acc still gives me random IP.

Keeping a log of that IP somewhere is a definite must. It's a hassle at times, speciallyw hen your list grows big, but better this than getting victimized by eB/PP right?

I can attest to this. My list was long and sloppy and since it was always changing I got lazy... *And then old ones started to pop up and I couldn't be sure what was where. It got to the point where I needed to get a new dial up service to be safe. They started to overlap and I lost track

Keep a log for sure.

Default our IP address is a dynamic address...

our IP address is a dynamic address but because the lease time is long it comes up as a Static IP. To change our ip I have to swap routers. Our internet provider hands out IP addresses to MAC addresses. Provider looks at your MAC address to see if it is allocated to an IP address and then checks to see if it is given this MAC address an IP address before. If so then give you the same IP back. When I change the router I have a different MAC address and then it allocates me a different IP address which I then use. And if I want another one I have to put the other router on. It is not a shared wireless link. It is not WIFI which is what we use internally.

Hi, should I be concerned that my ip address changed the last numbers from 252.3 to 248.28? Sorry if this is something I should know, but I'm kind of pc illiterate.
I am OK with ebay for now and
just don't want to log onto ebay with an ip that will raise a flag! thanks tmon

Smile you dont need a new router to change your ip

Hi there, you mentioned you were going to buy a new router, but you can change the mac address of your wireless router, then restart your modem and you will have a new IP address....

First check your ip on a website ( search on google )
write it down,

then check your ip using ipconfig ( this will show the ip of your router )

to do this just run command prompt (use Run in startup and type cmd)

then when on command prompt type ipconfig/all

look for 'ip address' then type it in your browser. ( it will be different than the one given on the internet and probarbly will end in 2.1 or 1.1 )

That should open your wireless router settings ( most major brands )

then look for where it says mac address/edit settings, then just change 1 or 2 of the values slightly, eg, if your mac was '00.1c.df.44.e1.d4' then just change the last 4 to 5 and 1c to 1d

this then click save, if it doesnt accept try changing it slightly, 2 or 3 tries and it will say ok..... router rebooting please wait.

when it says it has restarted, unplug your modem wait 1 minute power it back up and it then go on ipchecker.com or something similar and your ip will have changed.

Hope this works for you you can do it as many times as you want just follow the instructions carefully and it should work for you.
