tilly | 10-06-2010 11:59 AM | Internet Provider - Dynamic or Static? All,
i am a step closer to creating my first stealth account :cheer:
i have come to the part where i need to change my IP address, how can i tell if my internet provider is dynamic or static.
i currently use a 3 dongle which i plug into my usb port on my laptop.
any advice would be great
Thanks |
Do you use a router?
Try change the mac to see if you get a new IP. Or, a fast way is to hard reset router with little button on bottom or back. Hold it for 30 seconds, reboot all modem and routers.
When all is rebooted you should get a new IP if dynamic |
tilly | 10-06-2010 12:16 PM | hi pod, no i do not use a router at all. it is just a small dongle which contains a sim card which i plug into my usb. i think it is a dial up connection? |
go to ip burger or what is my ip address!!!
write down the ip address, log off, turn eveything off,
log back on after 5 mins and then go to ip burger etc again and you should have a new ip if its dynamic,,,,bare in mind im not 100% sure that this is a fact so double check with a more experienced member of the forum,:) |
oompaloompa | 10-06-2010 12:18 PM | check it on ipburger before and after reconnection |
Oh, so a mobile plan.
If its dynamic all you need to do is unplug it for a few minutes and plug it back in.
To test, check IP chicken and note IP. Unplug dongle and reboot system. Plug dongle back in and when connected check IP chicken again |
like pod:)
and oompaloompa:) |
fenway | 10-06-2010 12:47 PM | ipburger and ip chicken dont tell you if you have a static ip address or dynamic..
if you want to know go to whatsmyipaddress.com
thats will tell you everyting, not some ipburger or chicken or froot loop some 5 year old made up and put .com behind it |
tilly | 10-06-2010 01:05 PM | thanks everyone for the advice, yes i tried the method of rebooting after a few minutes and checking the ip addresses and yes they did change

Thanks | tilly,i think you will have a dynamic ip,keep going through the process i told you and if it keeps changing its defo dynamic as a static should always stay the same apart from sometimes when your isp will give you a different one due to lease running out |
tilly | 10-06-2010 02:09 PM | ok Mr GTB i will try that at least 5 times and see what results i get. fingers crossed. |

Mr GTB, the ip address definately keeps changing when i log off and re-boot, does this mean that its dynamic as i checked whatismyipaddress.com and got the above info |
oompaloompa | 10-06-2010 02:33 PM | its dynamic if it changes...
looks like whatismyipaddress.com is the fruitloop for its static assumptions |

Who cares what it says... You get new IP each time. Thats the only thing that matters here
Keep a log on IPs and where they are used. This is paramount. |
tilly | 10-06-2010 02:38 PM | thanks everyone for confirming it is dynamic.... yes i keep posting lots of silly questions because when it comes to stuff like this i am a dumb a*s
but...... i think i am making slow progress |
Not a dumb question at all. Cruise the forum if you want to see some dumb questions ;)
But yours was far from dumb. Quote:

fenway | 10-06-2010 03:12 PM | ip burger is garbage like i told you, as you see, you went to the whatsmyipaddress and it works, . no ned to turn on and off your computer to find out,, it is static ip if the site told you so. |

holyhell | 10-06-2010 03:33 PM | My turn for a dumb question. My connection is dynamic, I am just learning this. To change it, I log off, and what, unplug the router? I couldn't find a reset button or anything.
The router has a line that feeds to my laptop. Before, I would just unplug everything for a few hours, and get a new one. But shouldn't there be a quicker way? Since it's dynamic? Log off, shut computer down, AND unplug? | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 04:14 AM. | |
