Internet Provider - Dynamic or Static?
 

All,
i am a step closer to creating my first stealth account :cheer:

i have come to the part where i need to change my IP address, how can i tell if my internet provider is dynamic or static.

i currently use a 3 dongle which i plug into my usb port on my laptop.

any advice would be great

Do you use a router?

Try change the mac to see if you get a new IP. Or, a fast way is to hard reset router with little button on bottom or back. Hold it for 30 seconds, reboot all modem and routers.

When all is rebooted you should get a new IP if dynamic

hi pod, no i do not use a router at all. it is just a small dongle which contains a sim card which i plug into my usb. i think it is a dial up connection?

go to ip burger or what is my ip address!!!
write down the ip address,log off,turn eveything off,
log back on after 5 mins and then go to ip burger etc again and you should have a new ip if its dynamic,,,,bare in mind im not 100% sure that this is a fact so double check with a more experienced member of the forum,:)

check it on ipburger before and after reconnection

Oh, so a mobile plan.

If its dynamic all you need to do is unplug it for a few minutes and plug it back in.

To test, check IP chicken and note IP. Unplug dongle and reboot system. Plug dongle back in and when connected check IP chicken again

ipburger and ip chicken dont tell you if you have a static ip address or dynamic..
if you want to know go to whatsmyipaddress.com

thats will tell you everyting, not some ipburger or chicken or froot loop some 5 year old made up and put .com behind it

ISP: Three
Organization: Three
Proxy: None detected
Type: Broadband
Assignment: Static IP

umm think aspkin made ipburger...

but you make a good point about quick way to see if static/dynamic at whats my ip, but 3 ISP is usually dynamic. I have 3.

tilly,i think you will have a dynamic ip,keep going through the process i told you and if it keeps changing its defo dynamic as a static should always stay the same apart from sometimes when your isp will give you a different one due to lease running out

ok Mr GTB i will try that at least 5 times and see what results i get. fingers crossed.

Mr GTB, the ip address definately keeps changing when i log off and re-boot, does this mean that its dynamic as i checked whatismyipaddress.com and got the above info

looks like whatismyipaddress.com is the fruitloop for its static assumptions

Forget checking if ipwhatever.com says dynamic or static. Who cares what it says... You get new IP each time. Thats the only thing that matters here

Keep a log on IPs and where they are used. This is paramount.

ip burger is garbage like i told you, as you see, you went to the whatsmyipaddress and it works, . no ned to turn on and off your computer to find out,, it is static ip if the site told you so.

No, its not. Getting anew IP every restart is not static

My turn for a dumb question. My connection is dynamic, I am just learning this. To change it, I log off, and what, unplug the router? I couldn't find a reset button or anything.

The router has a line that feeds to my laptop. Before, I would just unplug everything for a few hours, and get a new one. But shouldn't there be a quicker way? Since it's dynamic? Log off, shut computer down, AND unplug?

Changing macs is fast and controllable. There are some good guides on here

Just contact your dongle company whoever it is and ask them if its dynamic or static. That's what I do then I do the mac testing with router to doublecheck. If you have windows get a ip gadget for your sidebar that shows you your ip everytime you log onto your desktop for whatever user account. Note: for every new user account you will have to re-add the gadget by going to: Windows Live Gallery

I'm sorry.... but ip burger will tell you if you have a static ip.... if it never changes, it's static.

Most mobile connections (cellular) are dynamic, and will change, often, even without a disconnection. However, sometimes they are static. If it doesn't change, it's static.

Even if a site tells you it's static, it can be changed.

So how do you change your static ip? I have roadrunner and am using ethernet and no wireless router. how do i change my ip pls? and does it means that you change ip for diff every user account as well?

try a new modem, or get rid of time warner

time warner sucks for stealth, they are known to have un changing ip addresses

you can change a static ip address every time you log in, i got static ip and just reconfigure it every time i make a new paypal, just grab one from the att pool, and configure it yourself.. only time warner in the U.S. uses static ip addresses, everyone else uses what is known as a sticky ip address, it really not static,I work for microsoft and trust me TimeWaner will keep you on static ip address for over 2 years at a time.

for testing IP. This site will check all flash items too, some of which will reveal your real IP even hidden through an proxy.
This site offers the best checking for IP's available. It will even tell you the screen resolution you are using if you are wondering how well it checks!

if its a new ip each time, its dynamic, WMIP should give different ip address upon restart too if dynamic, same as ipburger, chicken and the rest

tilly can you post a link to where it says static on the site, I cant dfind it, it may say static for everyone, I wanna check...

can you explain pls? do you mean getting rid of roadrunner and get an att internet service instead? or is the wireless to go card is better?

Ok I looked it up to see what the site refers to as STATIC,

ok LAN and WAN are different. static refers to the ISP server, that is static. We are NOT interested in that, we want our IP numbers to always change, at least the end digit and preferably more.....

very few IPs are static nowadays
