I just signed up for it, because everyone was praising Verizon. And of course, as my current run of luck would have it, it's not changing. Big f**king surprise.

I thought they offered both types. They do have some IPs on long lease so it appears to never change.
@holyhell, have you spoken to them to check what they've given you?

It actually is dynamic, I spoke in depth with the installer and he was surprisingly informative. And when I check my IP on the google sites, it mentions that my IP is dynamic.
I am able to change it, but it is time consuming. I was told that I could just log off, and turn off the router, and get a new one when I reboot.
With Green Bean's permission, I guess I could post the method to change the IP. Or just do PMs.

@holyhell, Go for it!!! Pleased you were able to get the info. It's a great ISP for those that have access.

Thank you for the green light, boss.
A couple of my steps may be overkill, but here's what I do-
#1- On my administrator account, I go to "Command Prompt" and type in
"IPconfig/release" and hit enter.
#2- Turn off/disable wireless connection on computer (a switch on my laptop)
#3- Turn off my router (button on the back)
#4- Unplug the power to the router
#5- Actually unscrew the copper cable that screws into the router
Unfortunately, you have to leave it off for a while. Seems to be a minimum of two hours, but four has always worked for me. It doesn't have to be overnight. Time frames may vary, I suppose.
Good luck everyone.

#5 ? are you ok ? you dont have to unscrew anything ... you just do ip release thats it if you hae access to the router you can change it via changing mac (depends on type of network - this will work on dhcp based networks)....

That is such a long process. I only have a cable/modem not a router for FIOS. Should I buy a router?

In my case with Verizon FiOS, I can only Release and Renew my IP every 2 hours. If anyone has found a solution to this, please share!

See this thread: VZ Actiontech 1424 Router - Verizon | Forums and Blogs - Verizon Community
Type 192.168.1.1 from your browser and enter admin/password or admin/password1. Some techs use admin/admin.
Do not pay attention to the dots, that is a security feature so that some one can not shoulder surf and guess the amount of letters in your password. If they all failed hold the reset in on the back of the router for 15 seconds. When the router lights turn green again the default will be admin/password.

So getting a VPN is a no-go? That's not what Aspkin said in his book. Trying to figure out how to change IP if I get a new account.

All you need to do to with FIOS to change it, is use the Verizon Live tech support chat. Tel them you need a new IP for work. I hve done it over a dozen times. Takes 5 minutes

or just get time warner just for spoofing =] just got it installed today, now i am working with a 50MB/50MB verizon connection for personal and servers and time warner (rr.com) for spoofing, 25.00$ a month for basic internet which is 2MB/1MB on a good day but you can uncap the limit to have 7MB. Fios is awesome for scanning plus there routers leave a port open so techs can remotely fix your router/cpu and it is so easy to access but hey what do i know. best bet if you have fios spring for the extra few bucks a month and no more waiting games etc..

192.168.1.1, log in as admin, get to your settings page and click on renew, wait 10 secs turn modem off, wait another 10 mins and turn modem back on, works everytime for me!
