Sky router uk

Hi guys,

I use SKY BROADBAND.. you have to use their router etc otherwise they dont support you and all that malarky.

I cannot change my MAC address so I thought I would reset the router to get a new IP however it stays the same.

I ring up sky ask them to change it and they tell me its already dynamic ... clearly not.

Any ideas or people with sky routers know how to get round this?

Sky is always a pain. I know that because it's in my house in the UK.

Until such time as we could get a better response, have you thought of using a dongle?

Not sure if you are aware that MAC ADDRESSES are not tracked yet. Not to say that might not happen in the future. I would usually just say change the IP. (Unless you are going for amazon too?)

Problem I have man is I cant change the IP and the router is preset so I cant change the MAC address.

Tried SMAC but the evaluation version doesnt let you alter the last two letters to spoof it, have to use some preset one. That would give me an IP somewhere in Antarctica so wouldnt work lol.

Someone must know

What just go and buy a pay as you dongle and do it that way?

They all have dynamic IP's I take it...


In the long run I need to be having something more stable than keep topping up.

i wrote how to change the ip in another thread that you wrote in, but i will write it in here for you also

go to the setup page for the sky router. then head over to maintenance, once there you will see 'ADSL PORT' info. if your 'network type' says 'MER' then the ip is sticky. it will not change if turned off for 30 secs, or even 2 hours. however, i find that if i leave the sky router off overnight, then turn it back on first thing in the morning i have a new ip. it has not failed me once. hope it helps

lol no help on this thresd either for a definete solution to changing your sky ip damn ive searched 3 threads now :(

I think its the 'newer' routers that seem to be sticky.

Try buying an older router off ebay or something & giving that a crack...

Sky sent me a new router that should give me a dynamic IP still, but it never changes...if i go back to the old router new IP each time

just out of interest, what does your IP address start with? please don't say 192.168.?.?

Use this mate.
Smac needs a crack the above is freeware.

you still may meed to reboot after use.

Also don't forget to check i.p before and after change
