Smile Wireless router recommendations - Never bought a router before

Ok so I want to buy a router so I can wirelessly connect my laptop, cell phone, and computer. I have bellsouth high speed DSL. I have absolutely no idea on how to search for the right, fast, and cheap router

I don't want to spend much money on this since I'm the only one who is going to be using it. Most I want to spend $20-30. Need fast, reliable, and secure router.

So please enlighten me guys!

BTW I have a windows pc.

Have you tried Wal-Mart?

I use a Netgear wireless router. It's a decent price, and works well.

What's the name of the router, aspkin?

What was the price you paid?

I think I can get a better price online than go to walmart. Don't you think?

It's a Netgear Wireless G

And I paid around $40 for it.

You can probably find it cheaper online.

I got mine at Wal-Mart because I don't like waiting a week for things I need.

Oh that's a awesome price!
I'm gonna look for it online or just go to tigerdirect.
I need the router by Saturday so I may just buy it from walmart as well.
Thanks for helping me choose a router aspkin! Thanks!

BTW is it fast and secure. How many stuff can I hook up to it?

Yeah, it's fast and of course secure. It has four ports for computers, printers, etc. And it's wireless so whatever else you need it for. It works great, I bought two of them. The second one is at my mom's house. It's perfect.

Netgears sucks

Get a cisco if yo want security or get a older linsky router that has linux on it
..

I have a older linksy roter that has linux.. I reprogrammed the software with tomato. so now my $45 router is a $300 router. i can adjust my signal. i get signal 4 blocks away from my home now. i am not worried about anybody accessing it because i have a 21 digit long alpha numeric password on it via WPA2 encryption. i also have a computer fan on my router to keep it cool. I adjusted my signal for 4 blocks so that i can use wireless internet while over my buddies hose

I followed the instructions that came with it...

Did you install the software first, the cd that came with it?

It worked fine for me, I had it up in running in no time.

I'm using wifi as I type this!

The problem was I set up the whole thing but it had the default settings so I couldn't connect to wifi. So I gave a call to netgear tech support and they fixed the problemo ASAP. So I'm pretty happy with this thing!

Thanks for the great recommendation aspkin!

Will this router work for xbox live?

Yah I use it sometimes with my iphone.

If I get xbox live then I'm gonna play a lot. I haven't played the 360 for like 6 months.

I quit playing PC games because it wasted a lot of time.

But I'm on the 360 every once in awhile.

Yes, very true video games do waste a lot of time but are fun if you got nothing else to do. I'll start playing a little bit again.

I knew modee was going to recommend an apple product! I love apple as well modee! But they are very expensive. I checked to buy the airport extreme and it was $100. I'd rather spend $40 and get a netgear. All most every router does the same thing anyways.
