Dynamic ip providers in UK
 

Hi all, as per title what service provider in Uk has dynamic ip?
I use Sky at the moment and although they say it is dynamic I have still not managed to change ip address. By looking at different forums is something to do with MER.
I used to have talk talk before and with simply rebooting modem I used to get different ip every time.

My Sky is dynamic, however on the new router they gave me it went static. So i switched back to the old one.

I believe BT provide a dynamic service?

Does anyone use Talk Talk? I was checking all offers at the moment and I quite like to get back on Talk Talk if still Dynamic:spy:

What router are you using and what router was giving static?
I have a Sagemcom at the moment. Do you think if I can get a different router I could successfully change ip?

Not sure - I'm using a Netgear router at the moment which gives me a dynamic IP.

Did you need a username and password to change router? also was the Netgear provided by sky before? Just asking because I know of sky been keen on customers using only sky routers

Yeah, i had a Netgear originally from 2+ years ago.

However I was getting terrible speeds, they decided it was down to my router (which it wasnt of course)..

They then sent me a new static router (I forget the name, dont know where it is now)

I then just went back to the Netgear so I can keep my dynamic IP, & for some magical reason my speed is quicker than before :peace:

I think if you check the sky forums they tell you that you need a number that you could get with the old routers but not the new ones if you want to add your own router. But they may have a way round that now, as it was a while ago I last checked.

BT is definitely dynamic; I get a new IP whenever I reset my router. The IP is always within the square mile of London though...

Orange is as well.

Has anyone joined SKy in the past 6 months or so & got a dynamic IP?

All sky ip are dynamic however with new accounts it seems they are MER.
If you turn the router off for at least 30mins then you will more than likely get a new IP address because with MER, Sky use 30 minute leases. Sometime you will get the same IP address if it hasn't been reallocated before the router is powered up again.
However in my experience the ip did not change even after overnight. Tried a few times now.
Now looking to get Talk Talk as a second line Do anyone knows if they will allow a second line into a residential property?

It depends when you log in with sky more than how long. It was off for three days once and still held onto the same IP but then tried again at peak start up times and found for some reason it changes just about every time.

Those times tend to be around six to six thirty in the morning.
I was told that it depends where you live where the second one falls, as it is a thirty minute period between five and six thirty, and the final one is between Ten and Ten Thirty, but watch out for what is ending, as it is to do with the end of shows or movies, when people sign on to check things out.

No idea why it works or if it works for all but its been working for me for a while now.

talk talk are dynamic and yes you can have two connections at one address, i used to run bt and talk talk at home at the same time until about 6 moths ago.

Plusnet is part of BT and said to be a better choice of cheaper provider .. talk talk can be risky from standpoint of reliability and service at its low low price, so needs thinking over, but many get the luck and no problems it seems.

The question i've never had 100% answered is if 2 providers can run at once if they both need a BT line .. I.E Virgin and BT is no problem since Virgin do not use a BT line .. dunno about other pairings.

Yes, just like TizWoz said bafore you can have two lines coming into your house. I have just taken talk talk and they installed a second line into the property for reduced fee of £25. Also I do know talk talk is not the best as customer service as reliability is concerned as I did have them before a couple of years ago. However they are cheap and the ip id dynamic at every reboot you get a fresh ip all the time

On balance have you found TT is a workable ISP in the past ? A lot of ppl seem to say theirs runs along ok.

I'm on verge of changing or adding provider, my concern naturally is the reliabilty and service warnings put about by the not so happy.

I would say they do serve our purpose. Personally I wouldn't use them as main provider as I have had them before and had some problems with both customer service and internet. However I have had the new line installed within a week of registering with them with no problem for now. Fingers crossed :dance:

Good one .. so how cheap cheap cheap is it with these 2 lines/tele numbers ? .. is that 2 lines of broadband with them or just 2 phone numbers ?
