Getting new internet connection: need help with questions
 

I have been using my land lords wifi (with permission of course,) This did not help for stealth accounts so I bought an At&t hot spot and turned it on & off in between account switching to generate new IP's

Instead of raising my rent he asked me to hook up the internet service in my apartment and pay for it, The provider usually provides a gateway (modem & router combined) .

I read in the stealth guide you can not change Mac addresses with these, thus no good for stealth purposes. but I believe if I ask for a stand alone modem, which I would have to opt for DSL rather than cable access for then I may use my own router or routers.

I have never done this I have 20 something accounts and this seems like a huge undertaking. Any suggestions other than dial up, as my land lord loves to stream movies? any suggestions on router brands or how to make this simpler for me? my ip will be Dynamic,

Im pretty sure with my cable, the IP is dependent on the nic's mac address. So changing the mac of the nic would result in a new ip.

Either way, what are we looking at in price? 40-50$? Hes still getting his increased rent, and now whatever he does on the internet is under your name and you are held responsible for his movie downloading.......

My buddy is a landlord and has had a extremely hard time filling his apts the past few years due to the economy, dropping rent 300$ to get tenats. Id research what you are paying and tell the guy to take a hike with his rent increase.

edit: im sure my isp is based on nic mac addresses, i just remembered when I built my new webserver I spoofed the old nic's mac address to keep the same ip, otherwise I was getting different ips and I have about 10domains pointed to one ip.

OK So My internet provider did EXACTLY opposite of what I wanted and they promised me. I asked for a DSL line and their tech department told me I could change mp IP just by resetting or UN-plunging my router.

Instead they installed cable broadband where I have no access to the router/gate way it is pass word protected from them.

They will not divulge the admin/password or let me configure the wireless. The installer informed me they do not install DSL any more but the tech department promised something else.

I was told he only way To change ip ADDRESS IS TO POWER OFF MODEM FOE 48 HOURS & HOPE FOR THE BEST. i REALLY NEED SOME SMART TECH ANSWERS ON THIS ONE! THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR SOME REAL HELP! :help:

Turn off the modem for 20 min and restart. It's not your ROUTER that needs to be turned off - it's your modem

The cable installer told me it is not eiven a router but that in is a modem with wireless built in and that it takes 24-32 hours to generate a new IP. The technical support told me the only way to change in is for mt to call them. I need to figure out how to break their passcode / word for that modem.
