Activity: 0% Longevity: 69% | | Re-using ip address
Im tethering my Nokia n8 and getting ips like below
112.343.009.6
112.343.009.249
112.242.088.112
112.242.009.149
112.242.088.5
the first 6 numbers do not change, the next 3 only seem to be 2 changes, then the next 3 seems to be random up to around 250 giving me at least 500 different combos.
I have used this phone before to log in to my old account (not stealth) on the move, would this have been using the same range of ip adds as i am getting now as there will be a chance of linking?
Its about 3 months since i used it on the real account and lots of people have the same address anyway dont they?

Clearly the first 6 DO change. Unless you're leaving off the first 3.
Yes, using that IP again that soon will get you linked. IMO Think of the millions of permutations here. Lightning doesn't strike the same place. Or is that an artillery shell?

So say ive unknowingly used an address on banned account 4 months ago and i get it again tomorrow, that would get me linked even with the length of time and the chance so many other people can get the same address at some point?

If it's already happened, there's nothing you can do about it. It's probably fine, but it might not be. Prepare a backup just in case.
Hmmm.... not sure about that one. Obviously tethering is the way to go.

One digit will work fine.
Hope you are keeping track of your IPs.

Stop handing out panic advice
From the numbers the OP displayed, he should be OK.
For starters ebay/paypal will know the IP range. Provided he has the user account & cookies, he should be OK

Is it worth the risk to link a new PP/EB to another acct? Just buy another dongle or tethering phone for the $20 monthly fee.

He should be okay, but the fact is, ebay uses ip addresses to link accounts.
It's not panic advice, it's advice to seek other ip solutions. You shouldn't re-use the same ip address on two different accounts. The odds of it happening by accident so recently are too great for ebay to consider it a coincidence.

You dont need all digits to change - just a few are ok. That being said - always good to vary the IPs up but dont worry about first few digits being the same

Only 1 digit needs to change, but it does mean you are likely to get repeat IP's. Are you keeping a log?
You should look into getting a better range of IP's

As long as the last octet changes, that is all you should worry about. With time, the IPs will cycle, so logging will help a great deal after a long time.

Thank you all.. i will look into other ways to ensure a wider range of ip addresses.. smartphone tethering has not worked very well for me so far.. it's very slow and does not work at all sometimes.. and the ip range is very limited, so i would not advise it as an only way of doing this, but that's just my experience. Also.. i can't imagine eBay bots not seeing a pattern in ip's that looks like this:
11.111.11.111
11.111.11.112
11.111.11.113
11.111.11.114
but maybe i am wrong about that.

Here is how it works...
When logging in using a dynamic IP (most IP's are assigned when you first log on to your ISP) many others may be using the same IP, just not at the same time. eBay typically will NOT close 2 accounts just because the same IP was used. HOWEVER - if one account gets banned, they start looking for any other accounts you might have. So, another account selling the same items, or sharing other similarities may get banned if the first one goes down.
Yes, similar IP's are not ideal, but they are not a death sentence either. IP's are assigned in blocks of thousands to ISP's. So, Verizon - just as an example may have the IP address range 11.111.11.001, all the way through 11.111.11.999.
