I can't seem to change I.P ??

I am following the guide yet its not changing?? Anyone know what service dodo give as that's who I am with? Have a Belkin router if that helps?? How do I find if I am static or dynamic?

JamesNorth101 08-21-2013 04:38 AM

To find out if your static or dynamic, give your provider a ring. They will be able to tell you

trains 08-21-2013 04:44 AM

Lol -ok. Bet they won't talk to me as the other half set it up !! So annoying when that happens. I shall try now -although not sure if they will be open. Off I go... And Thanks for the quick response !!

trains 08-21-2013 04:50 AM

And they are closed........

Turn off the modem and wait few minutes - turn it back on - go to ipburger.com - is the IP different?

Dodo? Even when their customer service is open, nothing happens.

Dead as the static IP you have.

I checked for you, trains. Your IP is static.

Consider Plan B

:surrender:

Cheers GreenBean. Well at least it was not me doing something wrong !
So off I go to search for plan B.....

and does that mean when I have been clearing my history/cookies in the past and then pulling the plug that nothing actually happened?? And if so, doing all that was pointless and ebay must have linked all accounts by now -lol

trains 08-21-2013 08:19 AM

And , tell me this, how can you tell my i.p is static ??

The definition of static means it won't change.

If it won't change, it's static.

If you rebooted your wifi router & modem and still cannot obtain a new IP address, then you have a static IP address OR may have a sticky dynamic IP address.

Most, if not all, ISP's offer dynamic IP's to their customers by default. Why? Because it is far more cost effective for them to assign you a random IP from their pool of IP's via DHCP.

A dedicated static IP provided by your ISP costs them more (this is why most ISP's will charge extra for you to have a true static IP). A static IP is mostly used for web hosting,

From what you've described, I'm willing to bet you have a sticky dynamic IP. Technically, it is considered a dynamic IP from your ISP, but they tend to not change it on reboot (see definition below).

Since it seems you don't have dynamic IP...your options are USB dongle, tethering, or even dial up service.

Web Definition...
A sticky dynamic IP address is an informal term used by cable and DSL Internet access subscribers to describe a dynamically assigned IP address which seldom changes. The addresses are usually assigned with DHCP. Since the modems are usually powered on for extended periods of time, the address leases are usually set to long periods and simply renewed. If a modem is turned off and powered up again before the next expiration of the address lease, it will most likely receive the same IP address.

Yep, I am static.
So I need to look at dongle plans and tethering -o.k at least I know my next step..

Very informative post. Thanks.
