IP Tracking

Just a quick one about IP Tracking.

On the Netgear Router, I can change the IP Address and IP Gateway.

However the IP Subnet Mask stays the same.

Is this a problem?

So long as your public IP changes, then your fine. Not need to touch anything else. What method have you used to generate a new IP?

Re: IP Tracking

Wow that was a fast reply!

I just changed the MAC address by one letter then rebooted the Modem.

Just experimenting at this stage, I have not started stealth properly yet.

Well so long as when you do that you get a new public IP, then you need not do anything else.

Make sure you track your IP addresses to ensure that the same one does not get used on a different account.

Dont worry too much about MAC for eB/pp purposes - at this time.

I think for OP is changing the MAC address simply to obtain a new IP address. It is the only method that works for a fair number of UK routers.

Not a public OVERUSED IP though

Thanks for the replies.

Yes it is just to obtain a new IP address through changing the MAC address which does work.

I am curious about the IP address usage argument, there are so many dynamic IP addresses I find it difficult to see how IP address alone can link people.

Re: IP Tracking

Using the same IP on different accounts as a one off seldom results in an account being closed, but it does cause a link none the less which could lead to closer scrutiny of the accounts, especially if they are selling similar items as well. For this reason its best avoided.

Re: IP Tracking

One IP can link you if you use it across 2+ accounts - that's the point.

Only you mentioned this.

What was the reason?

It can be a factor. It is not the only one.

Thing for you to understand is ebay UK treats its accounts a little bit differently from ebay com.

Should an UK account get reviewed manually the closeness of IP range will be noted.

That may be an issue. Your stealth success will depend on how may accounts you run and how you handle them.

As an aid, here's JamesNorth101's file that lets you log your info

http://www.aspkin.com/forums/multipl...-stealths.html

Bear in mind, one number off for an IP is only part of proper & good stealth.
