Can't change my ipaddress for the life of me
 

Read the stealth book and followed the examples on youtube for my netgear router. How can i change my ipaddress?

I changed a number on the mac address. Applied the update, uplugged the modem for 2 minutes, and updated the router.

I could not get it back to detect the internet and ended up changing the mac address back so I can post here.

Any help?

After changing the mac and you apply the changes to the router, it will not get the internet until you reboot the modem. Then you should get a new IP address.

when you say reboot the modem, it simply means unplug and plug in the battery right?

And does COX supply you with a static or dynamic IP?

Might you be assuming the IP changes without testing correctly?

Switch on the modem.

Run IP Burger - Track Your IP Address!

Log info.

Switch off the modem.

Switch on again.

Log info again.

If the number differs, you are lucky, you have dydnamic.

If no change, you have static. Look for other options.

Did a check and looked up older notes on COX


it may turn out to be a sticky IP ( althought dynamic).

I prefer to take quicker options with these for money reasons

Thank you for going above and beyond. Im gonna try something out tomorrow. I just got my first stealth accounts thanks to the sellers on this board.

Yes cutting off the power and waiting a bit should reset IP IF you have dynamic IP

If you have a sticky IP, run away from that provider.

The reason for a sticky IP is called Mac Address Binding. This happens every time you connect a new device or change Mac Address on your router.

You can call your provider to unbind the Mac Address, but this will be overwhelming to call every time you want to change and IP.

Will changing the modem change my ip? I was able to get an updated modem from my iSP recently but felt that I didnt need to change it because the old one was working fine.

The Mac address that is bound to the ISP is for the device connected to the modem. So changing the modem will not help.

I recommend buy a mobile hotspot. Changes Ip Address every single time. Just keep a log of the address so you don't cross them>

I wouldn't risk it. Plus, if that's how your relying on getting the IP addresses to run your accounts, then you'd have to use those locations EVERY time you wanted to log on whichever account you associate with that IP.

I have time warner and it's impossible to change my IP address with them. The best workaround I've found has been the mobile hotspot route. It'll be an extra cost, but you should easily be able to offset it by the sales you make with your new stealth accounts

Take time to read the forum, VPN has been discussed a lot. Save your account and stay away from VPN.

What is the difference between a wired and wireless if your DHCP server is the same router? The public IP will remain the same.

Got it. I actually got it to work. I would like to thank those who put in some great input. Now just to be sure.
Changed more than 1 # on my mac address and resetted both modem and router

1. Setup a new user account
2. Log into a stealth ebay account.
3. take it slow.

Yes, we do advise users to avoid such places.

starbucks make bad coffee for starters.

panera have nice bread though.

I digress...............

risk is other sellers may have burned the IP at those places. Might flag newish accounts.

Just things to consider as you are starting new with stealth.

To make doubly sure your IP is different, I suggest this file to log the info

May appear overkill but it is a good practice long term.
