IP Address CHANGE Problems

Hello. I am new to this, since I think I'm going to get kicked off ebay really soon (for my mistake of shipping internationally with no tracking). I am trying to set up another account just in case. My question is this:

I keep powering off my internet and router (one of those Apple/Mac ones ya plug into the wall for a wireless signal) over night. And after like 8-9 hrs when I re-connect everything I still have the same IP ADDRESS? How can I change the IP Address manually with a MACBOOK Pro?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You must login into the router and find the setup, your looking for the release and renew ip address feature. But the only way to get a new address is to login and click release address, wait a few seconds and unplug the router. Wait a few hours, possibly over night and you will have a new ip address

Oh you might need to login and click renew ip after waiting

You will also need to find out if you have a static or dynamic ip as you will not be able to change a static ip

The overnight thing has always worked for me. If you are using a wireless router, be sure and clear it with the reset button before you unplug it for the night. And make sure the DSL router/modem is unplugged as well.

I'm not sure why, but the wireless router can pull back the original IP address if not reset.

i think its to do with the mac address thats assigned to the router but not 100% sure

Ya, I think the MAC router has a permanent assigned address. The only way I have changed my IP is by plugging the internet cord directly into my laptop. Can you not even log into old email accounts associated with the old ebay name?

The IP will change with a change to your MAC address. Most Routers (linksys in particular) have a MAC address clone feature which can replace the Router MAC with the MAC of your network card, or will allow you to manually change any part of the MAC address resulting in a new IP being generated after a 10sec power cycle of the cable/dsl modem and DHCP release/DHCP renew).
