Re: RIP.. How many accounts have you lost?

Back in the day over a decade ago it was a cinch to get back on ebay.
Once they closed your account you could be back on selling items within a few minutes so I had dozens back then.
With the gradual increase in security over the years the number lost each year is now in single figures.

But it does raise the question of why we all get banned.
I was initially banned for selling bootleg tapes and dvd's of material not available officially and it seems once you get banned then further bans occur just because you've been previously banned rather than what you've been doing recently.
At one point Ebay operated a policy where if you got a listing removed for Vero you got a warning but if you got more than one within 30 days you got a 30 day selling ban.
I don't know if these temporary selling bans still operate.

Ebay will claim they suspend sellers to keep ebay safe and while I don't agree with fooling buyers I don't see any issues with providing buyers with something they cannot purchase properly as long as they are aware of what they are buying.

Looking at some of the figures on here - 100 accounts in 2 years for example just make you think.
Is everybody on here really an innocent party or are ebay doing the right thing by banning certain people.

Be interested to hear some of the reasons - but I quite understand those who won't want to talk about it but it might help build a picture of how to avoid suspensions when selling in a particular field.
It's one thing I don't see discussed on here but I think it would be useful and interesting if some people were happy to explain why they get banned without going into too much detail.

I actually have an account at the moment with almost 500 feedback but it has a selling ban simply because I phoned ebay to increase the selling limit and somehow they instantly linked the account to 2 others that had been closed over a year earlier.
I won't be doing that again.

One of the main things that bug me about both ebay and paypal is that often they will suspend you and specifically say they cannot explain why.
I had email correspondence with ebay and paypal over one suspension and both refused outright to say why I was being suspended and they would not even tell me which listing was the problem . They both quoted the usual crap "concern for the safety of ebay users".

So you can't even get the courtesy of being told how to avoid making the same error

Unfortunate lesson but yes, part of why not recommended to call in

Re: RIP.. How many accounts have you lost?

I was banned last year because of my defect rate- I went over 5% slightly and called them in to ask about it and about other things, it was my legit account- 2 weeks later I was banned.
The defects were hilarious as well but that was back when I didn't know 100% what I was doing in terms of my product.
I sell used goods and on couple I missed a scratch or a dent and people get all butthurt over it, even if I refund then within minutes and apologise- To eBay, it's just numbers in the system.
Never have I had a customer that was NOT happy, but still banned like a mother****er.

I think I had close to 1k transaction with total worth of just over £28k and the defects that I had were from the time when I started selling and they cost maybe £1 or £10? In the end I was selling £100-200 items but the cheap **** cost me my account.

BUT, now I run 8 Stealths and have been doing so for past 3 or 4 months and I've not had a single defect or a problem.
Numbers wise I'm not making as much as I was with my own account, because I'm slightly more careful and sell less, but it's a good practice before I purchase high limit account.

I don't know enough about VeRo or other "shady" stuff because I've never used dropshippers, bought goods from China, sold some horrible plastic stuff or taken any "risky" products on.

I have a business model that works for me, generates nice 150-250% profit and I just keep it all ticking along nicely.

Look to expand at some point, always be ahead of your product / competition.

Maybe look at other areas of the same category?

Very important what you said there and to be honest, that's what I've tried to to with my new stealth accounts:

Instead of selling my usual category, I've tried to get some new products in that cross over between the different categories, to lure in more customers but also to make it "look different"
Otherwise I'm just shooting same fish, same barrel.

The items that I have added are not worth as much, but the profit margin remains high and to be completely honest, and this is something that I've told my other half as well few times: Trying new products is more fun than just making money at times. It reminds me the days when I started and it was still fun and I was feeling like "Oh wow, I can make money on this"

Always good to change and try new things, with everything in life- Not just eBay.
Who knows, I might find a new item or a category that makes me even more money by trying it, you never know.

You "let her" on the internet?
Rhetorical. Please don't respond. I don't really want to have to use the ignore member function of this forum.

Maybe your wife was plotting with that guy telling ebay you run multiple accounts ? You shouldn't "let" her ,bro....bad things come with these decisions...

Re: RIP.. How many accounts have you lost?

No matter how many I've lost, the first few were by far the most painful... I had a serious balance in each of them and was overwhelmed by the injustice of the process and the coldness of e5ay and pp when u tried to fix the problem. Oh, those were very difficult days before I started chalking it all up to the cost of doing business on there....

Since I started in 2011 I used to lose about 5-10 accounts per year up until this year. This year I lost 0 accounts. “Knock on wood”. I haven’t mastered ebay/pp stealth but from when I started I have improved a lot due to trial and error.
