That's good to know georgesmith. Its time we start migrating away from Paypal since eBay and paypal are linking accounts a lot easier now.

A merchant account will soon be the only way to go.

vers0 10-08-2007 09:23 PM

Aspkins, can I safely assume that having a merchant account also means the need to pay taxes to the government?

longisland88 10-08-2007 09:25 PM

I was wondering this also

Chris Hanson 10-08-2007 09:25 PM

For the most part yes. But that also mean you can deduct ****. Like buy a computer a and say it is a business expense and deduct it at tax time

vers0 10-09-2007 01:58 AM

Chris, have you ever known anyone to be audited for not paying income taxes to the IRS. I currently am using eBay with Google checkout (Sometimes PayPal) and not to sure is these companies report anything to the IRS. I have read online that ebayers should report their income however also read that eBay does not report any information to the IRS. I purchase all of my items overseas and don't see how the IRS would find this out. I don't think Customs and the IRS communicate with each other. Just your thoughts...

Chris Hanson 10-09-2007 11:48 AM

If you have a merchant account they do. Google checkout no.

But yeah yuou should always pay your taxes if your making alot of money. The IRS wont come after small time money makers but they will sit back and wait 2 or 3 years until you made a load of money then they'll come after you.

And if you do your business right, you really wont have to pay that much taxes. Get a book on business taxes etc.. You can deduct gas, computers and other supplies you use for your business from your taxes..

You can even deduct a trip overseas as a business expenses.

longisland88 10-09-2007 05:40 PM

I still have alot of questions on this. Should we open up another thread?

If you're using a real merchant account, then yes you'll need to pay taxes on that.

Using Paypal and Checkout, you shouldn't have to worry about it too much, but I still pay my taxes on everything I earn. I don't want my toys taking away for non-payment!

By the way, great information Modee. I gave you some rep points for that. :p

what about when you withdraw $$ from GC or PP to your bank do they report it to the feds? I have around 4K right now that im about to withdraw from PP by check. I currently have bank of america. Should I open up another bank account with a local bank in my town?

Chris Hanson 10-21-2007 05:12 PM

just pay your taxes. Your posting in a forum how to avoid taxes.. Good way to get caught. feds /government dont play when it comes to that

longisland88 10-21-2007 08:13 PM

thanks for the facts modee I think I know what im gonna do now. The way I withdraw funds for my PP account now is by requesting a check from them(since I cant use their debit card anymore). but not for long! I finally let go and signed up for GC and cartmanager the other day and had no problem linking them with ebay. It was actually MUCH easier than I anticipated. Im just waiting for GC to verify my bank account. woo hoo!!

Chris Hanson 10-25-2007 12:38 AM

Please Confirm this anybody!!! Google Checkout

Can anybody tell me how often does google checkout deposit your money? Do they deposit twice a month or is it as often as the money comes in?

aspkin 10-25-2007 01:21 AM

Last I heard they deposit when it comes in. It's a weird system I think.

bbbrivera 10-25-2007 12:43 PM

Google Checkout not allowed on eBay?

I just tried to list something on eBay and got this message:

Attention Sellers!
It appears you are offering Google Checkout as a payment method which is not permitted in the eBay marketplace. Buyers have a wide variety of choices when deciding how to pay sellers. Most payment methods offer a high degree of safety and convenience, however, a few simply are not appropriate for the eBay marketplace. Based on safety concerns and input from the Community, eBay has established an Accepted Payments Policy that clarifies eBay's position on payment methods.

Please revise your listing by removing the non-permitted payment method.

Any ideas?

Chris Hanson 10-25-2007 12:58 PM

Woow you actually listed Google checkout as payment in your listings

vers0 10-25-2007 09:20 PM

Modee, Good point about the feedback. I never thought of that.
