I just received an email yesterday to confirm taxpayer status.
I already added one so why are they now trying to 'confirm' it?

I already had my EIN on file. Dont know why they are now asking to 'confirm' it

I had this happen back in the spring. I'm not sure why. I confirmed my EIN again and it went through fine, no problems.

Is it asking for the entire SSN or last 4?

When I tried to 'confirm' it it said:
The information is inconsistent with irs records.
Do I need to change my stealth business name to match the ein registered name?

If the business name on your Paypal account doesn't already match the EIN + business name in IRS records you probably won't be able to fix it. I lost a business PP account that way a few years ago. They will ask you to fill out a form W-9 to correct the inconsistencies but you can't complete the form without giving your SSN.

It's important that you give Paypal your correct business name and EIN when you upgrade. Because on stealth accounts later converted to business accounts it's next to impossible to fix that problem down the road once the IRS tells Paypal your business name is wrong.

Yes your Stealth Name must match the EIN name.


Changing that info on PayPal is difficult though, as the above poster stated. I tried changing it as well and got mine limited. Some of the reps I was speaking with said this is one of the more difficult PayPal things to do because of their security features.

Is your PayPal account limited in anyway?

Eventually they might limit your account depending on the exact wording they used and why they want it.

is there any way I can change the business name? if i downgrade it to personal and try to upgrade it to business?

You would have to submit an impossible amount of paperwork in order to change the business name. It's not possible on stealth accounts. Just google the requirements to change a Paypal's business name and you'll see what I mean.

I don't think they'll even let you downgrade, TBH.
