Angry Limited Due to Business Success

Hello! I have been lurking and think it was time to tell you my story. Maybe someone who has been there can point me in the right direction.

On Monday, February 1st, I received a message from PayPal for both my business and personal accounts. I was told I was limited for doing a pyramid scheme, multi-level marketing, or a Ponzi scheme.

That was entirely false since I haven't ever participated in any of that in my life.

I decided to call PayPal and got to a manager. He was really rude and condescending. I felt awful while talking to him. He said I just received too many payments in the last few months so it caused concern. PayPal collected fees on all of them so I made them a great deal of money. He refused to do anything so I hung up after thanking him for his time.

I made over $10,000 in December and $15,000 in January due to getting more subscribers in my stores. I promote my digital products and products of other people to my email list.

Was my account flagged due to having so much success in my business?

Have you been limited due to receiving so many payments too?

I went through this site to collect PayPal emails and sent a professional email to multiple addresses. On Monday, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but haven't heard anything back. Not even an email to confirm my submission.

Thanks for reading! I appreciate you!

PP does not like intangible items,
I have lost pp acc couple of times, when they limited, it is hard to pass there docs criteria, no matter stealth or real.

All I can say keep chasing them, wish you good luck.

Digital items... that's what got you in trouble.

And making that much in 2 months with digital items... you're really really lucky you got away with it.

How long have you been doing this with this particular acc?

Also what subscribers are you referring to? eBay stores? Instagram?

Yes digital items are a no no for PayPal and eBay, if you want to sell those items you need to build up trust and sell others things for about 12 months and get a good track history.

Hello! I have had this business account for over 2 years. My personal for like 20 years or so. I didn't know you can't sell digital items with PayPal. I know so many people doing it and they didn't get limited. I wonder why I was targeted among millions who sell them.

I have two private eCommerce stores on Shopify that sell digital products like ebooks and courses. The subscribers are email subscribers. I have over 10,000 people on my list that I sell to. I'm having to use Stripe right now until I can get my PayPal back. So you think I won't be able to?

Thanks! I have been selling digital products for over 20 years with PayPal and never had any problem. This is really going to hurt my business as I've already lost customers due to not having PayPal as an option.

I see that PayPal has a campaign page to get people to sell their digital products here:

WARNING PAYPAL LINK

https://www.paypal.com/ca/business/c.../digital-goods

If digital goods are a violation, then why are they doing that?

paypal is not reliable when it comes to business, you can opt for payment gateway that offer paypal as alternative that way you dont have to use your own paypal. there are additional fees like 5-6% but you wont have to worry about limitation.
One such is 2checkout and fastspring.

15-20k turnover a month is easily achievable through a well established stealth acc.

Problem is the fact you have been selling digital. If that income was a mix of tangle / digital I don't think they would have flagged it.

It is once you have successfully jumped through all of the hoops they throw at you. Verification / business plan checks.

I think you got away with it for so long is because it's on your ecomm store.

PP is NEVER a reliable processor. They can freeze your account at any given day they want. I will always use stripe or VISA / MASTER card / bank CC processor above anything else if I had an ecomm store like yours.

Imagine this... PP is a private company, and a bunch of monkeys who are not trained to actually understand what you are saying are handling your money.

They can say whatever they wanna say, but most of the veterans here who have used them for 10+ years would agree with me that they are not trust worthy.

They and eBay are the reason why this forum exists.

I'm pleased to report that my account is no longer limited. What I did was contact them through Twitter.

Paypal has a tendency to limit accounts for any reason. even If accounts are aged when you get a bigger than average volume it triggers review on your account.
