New paypal account but no 21 day hold! What? Releasing all funds

Ok everyone riddle me this? I opened up a new paypal/ebay account my details were all ⊗⊗⊗⊗, i listed 4 items for sale yesterday all under $50, logged into paypal this morning and there is no hold on my funds! What?! Everything i have read on this forum has told me 21 day hold for newbie or that you would need at least x amount of fb.

I don't have any bank details on there and I am paypal unconfirmed, yet there not putting any holds on funds. i have bought a couple of things with the money i have in there so i know there is no hold. So question is, did paypal 21 day hold policy recently change or did i just get luck?

rcdrivertim 09-29-2010 11:53 AM

You got lucky because I got my big fat 21 day hold immediately...

rsot 09-29-2010 12:00 PM

Yes you are lucky - use the funds for shipping - just be careful on withdrawing...

imjustme 09-29-2010 12:12 PM

On some accounts I get it, on others I don't. It's like lottery.

FandangoKango 09-29-2010 01:54 PM

Some get the hold and some do. It's just luck and paypal systems. Don't worry they haven't changed policy they just want to do it like that.

First Edition 09-29-2010 02:00 PM

21 day holds are not a guarantee, that has been established in past discussions

Also, providing excellent service and fast shipping removes the hold also.... every time without fail :)

Me too. I have one account that with 1 seller feedback I only got 3 holds on over a dozen sales. Withdraws all fine too

They will pop up from time to time. 1st hold was around the 8th sale. So go figure.

Not having them now is no guarantee they wont all of a sudden be common too. So keep that in mind. No free rides with PayPal.....

aking 09-29-2010 02:49 PM

Dont worry, you will get the dreaded red box in the top of your paypal account soon. None of my new paypal accounts get holds at first (of course I usually age them for 3 months before using), but after I sell about 10 items, I get an automated email from paypal and everything gets held.

pod 09-29-2010 02:51 PM

Yes, sir. Thats about right. Got a soft limit on about the 13th or 14th sale. Passed it and had one hold since. I can live with some holds.

what you do you mean by "soft limit" and how do you pass it? I've only gotten what I stated above.

Just invoices and tracking, nothing else.

I assumed by red bar you meant a limit.

First Edition 09-29-2010 03:07 PM

red bar= account balance in the negative, or red font to denote limitation

IMO.... could be wrong :)

yes that is true, but they also put a red bar with paypals new hold policy on the top of your paypal page. Others here know what I am referring too, it has been discussed a few times before.

pod 09-29-2010 03:15 PM

Gotcha. I was thinking limitation. I have [so far] not been blessed with the "always on" holds [yet]

First Edition 09-29-2010 03:15 PM

Canadian accounts have many perks.....

So Canadian accounts still get no holds?

First Edition 09-29-2010 03:20 PM

No... they do... it's just different... best discussed via pm

luna 09-29-2010 05:31 PM

we get the holds too

on every account that I had so far the 21 day hold was either immediately, or after 5 sales, or not at all, or over 50.00 and not for under 50.00 and then for 8.00. they put the holds on just as they go or want. for us in Canada too belive me.:ballchain:

underneaththebus 09-29-2010 05:48 PM

I've have 6 small items up bin, sold 2 items already shipped quick and got great Fb. Btw, I also thought they don't let you do Bin requiring immediate payment unless you had at least 10 Fb? Correct or incorrect? I've spent so much time reading these forums I feel like my eyes are about to fall out! Will keep you guys posted ;-)

So in other words it was random?

This is the same for me.

Example: today I got four $40 payments, the first three got frozen, the last one went thru.

I don't really mind the 21 day hold as I alternate to a different paypal/ebay account once I reach a $400 usd threshold. By the time I come back to the paypal account, 21 days have passed and I can get the funds.

luna 09-29-2010 09:10 PM

5 fb

when you have 5 FB you can list as BIN

underneaththebus 09-30-2010 09:32 AM

I guess luck of the draw regarding bin with no Fb

First Edition 09-30-2010 11:00 AM

No, the rules are quite clear when BIN auctions are allowed.

imjustme 09-30-2010 11:28 AM

If you don't get a hold for 21 days you can always send an email to PayPal and ask them what's wrong. They should be able to fix it so that your payments are getting held for 21 days.

:D

underneaththebus 09-30-2010 10:18 PM

Point taken imjustme :-)

imthatguy 10-04-2010 02:55 PM

Paypal released my 21 hold from my account, then I got a dispute and 1 week later they put it back on

First Edition 10-04-2010 02:59 PM

ouch..... :)

I've said this often before... paypal isnt the only game in town when it comes to accepting payments.

OfficialGenius 10-04-2010 03:09 PM

It's only called the "21 day hold" if you don't provide tracking number to paypal after you shipped your item or if customer doesn't leave positive feedback.

Unless things have changed

First Edition 10-04-2010 03:11 PM

Don't you have to provide BOTH in order for the hold to be released?

imthatguy 10-04-2010 03:29 PM

NOPE, Paypal system will see the item delivered and release hold soon after...

They say if tracking shows delivered its released 3 days later. But I have never seen that actually happen. I called once and had a pissy paypal agent so I left it alone.

when 21 days winds down they release the loot OR if positive feedback is left they release the money then

But you dont need both, in theory

First Edition 10-04-2010 04:12 PM

oh... I always get + feedback and ship right away... so I always thought it was both... oh well :)

pod 10-04-2010 04:44 PM

Most of the time feedback is pretty quick and all that's needed. But sometimes you get drive by buyers that cant be bothered to leave feedback. Its rare, but annoying

I sold an item for $600, sent express, delivered 2 days later.
[Called buyer to touch base a week later, happy as hell - But be damned if the cat can be bothered with feedback]
PayPal tracking shows delivered 10 days ago

... Still on hold. PayPal guy said system pings tracking every day and when it shows delivered money is released within 3 days. Hogwash. Never once for me anyway

HurricaneHuntr 10-04-2010 07:45 PM

yeah hes full of it. i just email them, within 2 days it gets released.

pod 10-04-2010 07:52 PM

email at what address? From system?

This one is almost at the 21 days so I dont care. But maybe for next time. He was pretty firm the system works [even though it was long past a week]
The prick I talked to was a real ass on a power trip. So I just politely let it go. Not going to take on a cowboy at paypal who likes to be the player in a room full of cubicles...

Usually I get some real nice girls at PayPal. But this guy thought he was the god of war. Dont tell a guy like that he's wrong.

HurricaneHuntr 10-04-2010 07:57 PM

i just goto the "contact us" page and send them an email with each of the transaction ids from my account, and bitch at them to release the funds, since its been delivered for 3 days... i tell them and they do.

I got a nice guy the other day when i called, he says.I'll go get the limitation removed. After it was just the security limitation. I usually dont call paypal, im not good on the phones. it makes me nervous.

pod 10-04-2010 08:05 PM

I've been really lucky when I call. Lots of very nice staff. But this guy....

I don't call very often, but this buyer was a new 0 buyer on a $600 item that would not reply to any emails and that made me nervous. 10 days after delivery confirmation seemed too long. And it seems I will basically have to wait out 18 days after delivery. Thats kind of too long as far as I'm concerned.
