I sold on eBay from the beginning to about 1999. I then took a 10 year break. During that time, I was in Las Vegas on business. I bought something on eBay, paid via PayPal, all using the hotel's internet.

My PayPal account was locked and I received an email to call them at their 800 number. I called and explained I was away from home on business and was ordering an item for my grandmother. They verified some of my information and unlocked the account.

Keep in mind, at that point I was only BUYING on eBay. Had I been a seller at that time, this could have turned out a lot worse for me.

Logging on from an IP address in another city is a potential fraud flag. As in, they are thinking maybe the account was hacked/hijacked. That brings scrutiny to the account. For sellers, especially stealth sellers, scrutiny brings trouble.

So, I agree with GB. Not worth the risk.

OK, and why they created their apps for mobile devices?
Unless it is in different countries around the globe. Otherwise, I don't think there will be a problem if you sometime moving around the country.

that's not the point, we are not the only ones who have eBay accounts.
using an open Wifi connection which MANY eBay users have connected to will more then likely link to you another account.

Really? re-read what the OP wrote.

Can I use the hotel's wifi......

Not can I use my apps for mobile devices???

Response was pertinent to the question asked.

Let's expand on that for your benefit. OP decides to withdraw say $500 from paypal from a 'strange IP'.... do you still content this would not be a problem?

If so, let me use your paypal account.

What do you intend to do with your paypal while on this vacation?

Should it be withdrawing funds, consider emailing paypal to let them know you will be out of state for a specific period. Ask for their advice about how to access your own account.

Be proactive if you want to use the account. Do not go in unprepared.
Make sure you have all your ID & secret questions.

Be careful to protect yourself.

Then consider that email.

Or risk 'we noticed suspicious activity on your account', please prove you are you limitation.

This has happened on domestic accounts within the USA.

Be careful of this BIG risk.

In the below thread, the user had issues after using a different IP. There were more issues but the basic is being limited because of a different IP

Actually GB is a female.

Actually she is trying to help you and knows what she is saying.

Any time you put an account on a public access connection you just linked yourself to anyone who has ever used at IP address.

For instance we have had a lot of posters use a local library. Then come back and ask why is my account down.

If you travel a lot, use other means to get your access to a connection.

If you get limited, transfers are reversed. You would not get funds.

I had my paypal set up on dial up. I made a few transfers before the weekend. Now last night I transfered some funds at 11pm usa time and at 5am I got limited. I went back on dialup to transfer the funds since I am in a hotel with wifi I could not do it. Will only the funds from last nights transfer be held. Will I get the past transfers from days ago..

The transfers from days ago MAY show up. If they do, you need to withdraw that money QUICKLY. PayPal will DEFINITELY try to grab it back by debiting your account.

I have a feeling you connected to the hotels wifi...

If you got limited same day of transfer, you will not see those funds.

If it's been more then 2 days, then most likely you're fine; however, once available, withdraw it right away.

Where I get my stuff can I create something and will they check. I ca[n create invoice and use a new cell as the contact of the business.. will that work.

The amount of time and resources you spend on this will have a big impact on the possible outcome. Might be worth considering using a landline.

Landline does help but cell phone has been used before as point of contact - preferably a number that pp can reach...if they choose to

What you have to work out is why you got limited.

Amounts of withdrawals, incorrectly made accounts that look risky all need to be checked.

Good Luck
