Really Strange PayPal Interaction

I've received a rather strange infraction from PayPal. I was using this account since January, selling partially high-risk brands like Beats.

I withdrew £150.00 yesterday which was pending and woke up to this email out of no where.

It seems instead of limiting the account, I cannot login to it and the password reset system indicates that it doesn't exist, but when attempting to use the email again in registration, it shows as existing already.

Here's the email I received;

SUBJECT: PayPal Final Decision

CONTENT:

Dear XXXX Services,

To protect all members of our online community, we must part ways with you.
We've reviewed your PayPal account and determined there is excessive risk
involved in doing business with you. Your account has been closed and any pending transactions have been cancelled.

Your account cannot be re-opened and any funds in your PayPal balance have been withdrawn to XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX - please allow 3-4 working days for funds to reach your bank account.

If you'd like more information about our policies, please read our User
Agreement. Click 'Legal Agreements' at the bottom of any PayPal page, and
then click 'User Agreement for PayPal Service.'

Apologies for any inconvenience this has caused. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this decision, please respond to this email.

Sincerely,
Sarah
PayPal Office of Executive Escalations

I'm not sure what triggered it, but the fact they didn't keep the account opened or hold the funds for 180 days would suggest that perhaps they simply don't like the items I was selling or were feeling generous :amen: who knows...

Time to start from scratch again I think!

Beats are not "partially" high-risk at all.

They're legitimate items and each item was dispatched with their seal intact and receipt from the retailer.

Ah ok - well the issue is that the brand itself = high risk. Let's say even if you have the authentic item and receipt, etc to prove you are selling genuine items....it's just that so many ppl sell f*kes that the item itself is flagged.

PP didnt even give you a chance to appeal - that's how rough the brand can be to sell

Yeah. If I had the chance, I would've happily sent them their required information to prove the items were genuine.

It's unlike PayPal to close your account and withdraw funds instantly, as I've always had 180 days with the account still opened. And 'Final Decision' makes it clear they've made their mind up :tears:

Since I've been put straight to Executive Escalations instead of service@paypal.com I could respond with the documents anyway haha.

Also the fact that email came from "PayPal Office of Executive Escalations" says that they likely received a complaint which was escalated to a high level. Most of the time a suspention or account limitation would be handled by the minions in operations in Omaha, but this got the attention of the Exec office, so no way you are going to appeal this, sorry to say. Account is toast!

Last time I phoned them, I was speaking to someone in India. They had to transfer me and I ended up on the phone to someone in Ireland who seemed to have more power, so that's probably the Executive Escalations for the UK.

The beats are definitely High Risk, legit or not. Ebay and Paypal will always shoot first and ask questions later.

So, you did get your money from paypal already?

I received the email that you get when a withdrawal is requested, but ironically "subject to review" for 72 hours.

I'm expecting the funds to clear on Friday morning.

I would say Beats are maybe the highest Risk!

Are you sure your supplier is legit? Seals are easily copied also.

This kind of escalation is a direct complaint. Which means they are either not legit or a competitor wanted you out of the way.

Why do you get limited so often? Might be time for a new strategy less risky.

UPDATE:

Just had a brawl with PayPal on the phone.

Outline of what I said and was told:

It came down to them, in other words, admitting that the system dictates EVERYTHING in terms of security and limitations. They said I was flagged because of a suspicious amount of transactions in a short space of time - they said I was reviewed by an account specialist, but, due to a lack of evidence to determine the legitimacy of those transactions, they were required in accordance with EU regulations to take action and close the account.

They said as a "courtesy" , they didn't hold the funds for 180 days and any balances have been withdrawn which will clear from 72 hours on Tuesday. They said whilst I am not allowed to sell again, I can use PayPal in the future for purchases only by registering an account and linking a valid payment method to verify it with and if I start selling, my account would be limited and I would have to wait 180 days per protocol.

They said that they're not accusing me of anything, but are simply obliged to tend to high prevention measures by taking the relevant measures against a higher-than-usual risk seller.

That is very strange. But it is nice to hear you wont have to wait for your loot.

Re: Really Strange PayPal Interaction

I agree, at least it's pretty clear from what they said.

So regardless, it's best if you open some back up accounts for your selling.

Bjammin has good accounts at high limits if you prefer to have accounts ready to go.

My grandkids get my used Beats headphones each time I upgrade. I wouldn't even put a used pair on my account, between the dispute-prone buyers and the minions at Fleabay sitting next to a giant cartoon style panic button, I don't even want to take the chance.

Re: Really Strange PayPal Interaction

How many Beats were you selling? And how old was your linked eB account? Any problems with disputes/claims, chargebacks, etc?
