The balance is frozen. They will attempt to charge the credit card after three attempts to deduct your checking account.

Close the checking account if you cant handle the three over draft fees.

If you existings PayPal funds are not enough, on hold, etc, it doesn't matter how much the refund is- they will try and take it all from your bank.

If the bank reject it, it will come back to PP, but take a couple days. As Yankee indicated above, maybe it's best if you close that account and open a new one. The old account is linked to limited PP anyway and not much use to you at this point.

You can exit your remaining funds after 180 days to the same bank account. There should be an option to set your default funding preference, and you should choose your Paypal balance.. not your bank account.

You mention this is a stealth account which I assume you mean in a "stealth name". I'm also assuming your bank acct is on your real name.

If that's the case, how would PP go about being successful in removing funds in an account that the name is not the same?

They will and they do, my PNC accounts have let it happen but my BoA accounts do not let it go through. Paypal is sneaky about setting your bank as primary funding source when you add it, simply uncheck that and make your paypal balance primary source. Ive learned this a few times the hard way..

That's terrible advice considering the $800 will be available for withdrawal in 6 months, and the only way to get it out will be to withdraw to the original bank account.

@OP - I don't know how limited your account is, but is it giving you the option anywhere to add a card? If it will let you add a card you could buy a prepaid gift card and add it as a payment source so your refunds would be drawn from there instead of your bank. Idk if it's possible but it's something to look into...

This is something that can be really dangerous! A lot of banks want the bank account zero'd out for at least 48 hours before the account is "closed" and closed against ACH charges and so on. Even then for a certain amount of time a deposit can automatically re-open the bank account.

Years ago (not sure if they still do this) PP kept presenting charges of different amounts randomly, and the lady at the bank told me she saw this before, it was PP's way around a specific ACH charge block (for a specific charge/amount) that a customer might put on the account. They would send $1 and then attempt to charge $240 and then the next day try to charge $165 or some other random amount trying to get a charge to go through. Since I've never had account issues since then, I dont know if they still do it, but once your bank is on an account that is limited, you better monitor it carefully until everything is securely shut down and settled.
