Default Good Bye PayPal!!! You will not be missed!!!

One of the tech industryís most storied partnerships is coming to an end.

eBay announced today that it will stop working with PayPal as its back-end payments service in 2020, and will start to move a small percentage of its payments volume to a new partner later this year.In PayPalís place, eBay has signed a long-term deal with Adyen, an Amsterdam-based payments company that was founded in 2006 and has counted global companies like Uber, Netflix and Spotify among its customer base.

Adyenís business is solely focused on providing back-end payments services, like credit card processing, to businesses, so you wonít see any Adyen payment buttons pop up on eBay. But Adyen will become the primary payments processor for eBay sites across the world.

After the existing eBay-PayPal agreement ends in 2020, PayPal will remain a payment option for shoppers on eBay, but wonít be prominently featured ahead of debit and credit card options as it is today. PayPal will cease to process card payments for eBay at that time.today that it will stop working with PayPal as its back-end payments service in 2020, and will start to move a small percentage of its payments volume to a new partner later this year.

Do not even know this is a good news or not. Who knows if Adyen will not do the same thing as PayPal. The good thing about PayPal is that at least we know how to avoid the linkage but we know nothing about Adyen

TERRIBLE news for us stealthers, IMO.

"To enable payments in their eBay accounts, sellers should expect to provide eBay with some additional payments-related data and transition to a new relationship with eBay that includes integrated payments capabilities."

Now we don't have to use paypal, but we have to use a payment processor which means that you will have to provide everything like real name, SS#, and so on when opening an account and giving false info is a potential felony, and the payment processor and eBay shares data.

In a few years most of us will call having to deal with paypal "the good old days".

Hooray.

That's the part I don't like either.. additional payments-related data can be very personal.

It's the same back in system Etsy uses that I've been circumventing for the past three years. I may get back on eBay more when this goes live.

Does etsy require a SSN or EIN to sell on because of this back end system?

They will require one or the other to verify the shop when you get a request. I have given EIN's to both Etsy and Groupon - two platforms I sell on that use the system. My real info has been burned for years.

Since paypal actually has competition now, maybe this will help change their "do what we want and you can't do a thing about it" attitude towards its users.

From everything I have read, it looks like EB will use Adyen for their backend "nuts & bolts" and connect it with something called "eBay Payments" similar to Amazon's own closed end payment platform.

Imagine EB & their payment gaway being one- just like Amazon. Seamless, yet possibly much harder for stealthers to work around.

Even so, PayPal has such a cult following and people are so indoctrinated into using it, it's still going to be around a good while. After all, there are nearly 220 million active PP accounts out there.

this bit of news is nothing special. just means ebay will not place paypal as its preferred payment method but people still can use it as a means of payment and both buying and receiving.

if ebay said something like, we are severing all ties to paypal and we will no longer accept paypal as a means of payment on our website. That is a huge deal but that is not what they are saying here.

paypal will still be utilized on their website like normal.

It's really nothing to get worried or excited about.

Existing buyers will continue to use Paypal to pay for their ebay purchases and it will be many years before the Adyen checkout becomes the main payment method.

No doubt ebay will ask for more information in order to set up a seller account but unless there are huge advances in KYC checks over the next few years, it will still be relatively easy to circumvent.

Paypal's stock has skyrocketed the past year. I'm not that clued in as to why but I'm guessing because they are ahead of the game with Venmo, although if Apple wallet can win that battle I have no idea what else Paypal has going for it.

Comparing etsy to ebay and paypal I have to say that the etsy system is 1000 times better and it's still possible to stealth. With Ebay + paypal you run the risk to get banned from either (ebay OR paypal) while with Ayden implemented you can only get banned from Ebay. Less risk. Thumbs up! Hopefully paypal will suffer from this. I hate them so much. ****hole company.
