PayPal hacked
 

Hi,

I woke up to find my paypal password changed. I managed to recover the account and secure it with new password and mobile phone number. However a payment has been sent through family and friends by the hacker. What steps should I best take now? A simple call in to explain what happened? Would prefer to avoid a bank chargeback but let's see.

PS. account was bought on here from a now banned seller. I didnt change the password, I waited too long I guess and bought from a untrusted person.

It’s always a good idea to change passwords and phone numbers on accounts after a few weeks of getting them

Had the funds been sent from your PayPal balance? If so the bank isn’t going to be able to do much

You can talk to PayPal about unauthorised access use though and they maybe able to help

Yeh I usually do change but was a newish account and I guess let it slide just that bit too long. Of course theres the possibility it wasnt the seller but I find that unlikely since I dont use the email or password for anything else over the internet or anywhere but then again I'm not a cyber expert in these things..

An update, called paypal and got the money returned fortunately.
