PayPal scammers

I was asked on messenger by a friend to receive payment for goods through PayPal,
£480 was sent to my paypal account which I sent to my bank the to my friend. After the transaction paypal reversed the money leaving me -£480 they say this was done as unauthorised transaction. I realised then that my friends messenger had been hacked and that the money was sent also from a hacked account. I have proof that the sender's account was hacked .but paypal will not admit to anything and keep say I am not covered under buyer seller protection as was friends and family. How can this be as I did not know who the sender of the money was. All I get is threats from the collection dept
I have told my bank and they are chasing where the money was sent, and have contacted action fraud. PayPal do my want to or seem to want to resolve this where do I stand

ugh, that's very tough.

I just don't see how you're covered. I really hope you are but..... this is not looking good.
And if you have the collection's agency after you it means you have let it sit for a long time

You have absolutely zero chance.

What's stopping an actual hacker from using this story on paypal if they were to reimburse you in situations like this ?

Seller protection works when you provide a valid proof of delivery. Intangible items are simply not covered unless you have a special relationship with paypal and they enable this feature on your account.

For UA dispute, seller needs to prove he has shipped the item, not necessarily delivered,if he has a shipping label which shows it has been shipped,he should appeal.
but it does not look like he has any
