How long do you wait to sell on PP

As above, how long after creating your PP do you wait to sell? I sell products priced between £80-£140 through website and invoicing. I do not use eBay. I have created many successful pp’s but my last 2 have been hit with limitations on my first payment received. One for 85 and one for 115. Both had banks attached and waited a week to receive payment. Any advice would be great

PP without use of eb - from my own experience - I have actually done purchasing small stuff before straight sales - usually 2-3 weeks. I avoid selling high risk items off the bat.

What category of sales? Risky?

I don’t purchase anything on them, they are used only for selling.

No high risk items, camping equipment. Both received first payments in the last 72 hours, both different user accounts, using mobile device hotspot. Both limited within one minute of receiving payment. I don’t know if it’s a glitch or the norm on new accounts now. They can’t limit every new account can they?

Steps of account creation please for analysis

1. New user on laptop.
2. Using mobile hotspot on phone (new IP every time phone is turned off)
3. Create account using safari/chrome, use genuine phone number
4. Use full stealth details
5. Usually add bank a few days after account creation
6. 9-14 days after creation invoice customers and start to receive payments. 1-2 payments a week

And you ship with tracking? No attempts to withdraw funds?

Sometimes tracking, sometimes customer collects. I always withdraw funds a day or so after receiving funds. Never had a problem doing that. My problem now is new accounts being limited on first payment. It’s never happened before

The account is new.

It isn't down to you making any mistakes. It's a combination of factors that causes it:-

1. The perceived risk your account presents (see above).
2. The perceived risk of the sender's account (again see above)
3. The perceived risk of the transaction (amount & reason for receiving).

If you are using a business account, confirming identity on the account before receiving any funds will help to reduce the chance of limitation.

What are they asking for to remove the limitation? That's usually an indication of why they limited you. If they are asking for invoices then it's more down to the items being sold. If it's just say photo ID, then it's down to the fact the account is stealth.

The reasons are never totally clear cut.

How do I confirm identity before being limited? Does adding a card help? I’ve never added cards to my accounts before just a bank. Both limitations asked for photo ID, invoices from supplier, proof of fulfilment. Very strange as my account creation method has not changed and it’s the first payment on both accounts.

I don’t sell on eBay so how do they actually know what items I’m selling? I usually just invoice my customers after talking to them through marketplace etc

To confirm identity, you need to submit photo ID and address proof.

They know what you are selling because presumably you are stating the reason within the invoice. If you are leaving this suitably vague, then this on it's own could trigger a limitation.

They are wanting to know who you are and what you are selling.

If the items are legit like you say, get the documents together and have a go at restoring the account.

No mate, sell through own websites or through socials etc

PayPal made this verification almost mandatory on new accounts. Even if your account doesn't get limited after the first transaction, PayPal will ask to provide documents sooner or later. So you just need to pass this verification to continue using PayPal.
