Filing a dispute with PayPal for Alibaba

Just went to file a dispute with PP over an Alibaba shipment and I got a popup from PP saying: "We recommend you to work with Alibaba to resolve any issues you might be facing with this transaction". But it still gave me an option to continue and file with PP.

Maybe this is a silly question, but whats the deal with this? Is there any reason PP wouldn't be able to meditate my transaction? I don't feel comfortable filing with Alibaba because Ive read that that Alibaba sellers have the option to just reship the item, and I dont want that. I want a refund.

JW if I should go ahead and file w PP regardless of the notification. Does it matter?

Paypal does this with chargeback, chargeback makes Paypal look bad in the eyes of the bank which provides its merchant account.
why cant you file dispute via Alibaba,I think it will make the seller refund

You can - PP simply provided it's standard recommendation

Remember how sellers felt when someone filed claim with PP for an eB sale? You're doing the same thing.

Maybe they gave you that recommendation because they know Alibaba has their own dispute mediation system?

What's wrong with the original shipment? Was it seized or something or are you trying to get the shipment and a refund, because the shipment was delayed?

DHL reps haven't been all too helpful outside of saying its been "detained" by customs ("Please contact DHL"). It is an electronic product with no branding and does not infringe on any configuration designs either. However, there is a design element on the item which I suspect may have been the culprit - this element has been modified to reduce similarity to the original trademark, but if customs disagrees that it is sufficiently different than I imagine it explains whats happening.

I only became aware of this the day after my order. That same day, I asked the supplier to cancel and allow me to order something else (of even greater value, to make up for the inconvenience). He denied the request.

I suppose I just have more faith in PP than Alibaba to get my refund processed correctly. I don't want a "replacement", I want nothing to do with this shipment whatsoever. Older posts I read on Aspkin say that Alibaba sellers can just game the dispute system by resending the item - which is the very item I dont want in the first place

As a seller I'm inclined to say be more patient. You DID order whatever this was in the first place. Going over the seller's head for a refund after the seller has already shipped your order and has no way of getting it back seems dishonest. Whether intentional or not you're likely to end up with the item and a refund if you take that route.

A month or two ago I got a shipment which had been tied up in customs for 2 months. I had already assumed they'd found some reason to seize the shipment but you never know until you get their paperwork in the mail telling you for sure they took your shipment. Customs is apparently very slow at the moment. I have another shipment tied up now but since I haven't heard from customs I'm leaving the matter alone with my supplier for now.

Good luck, I guess. Always hold up your end of the deal.
