Do you open your bank accounts online?

When i opened my first bank account i went online. Soon enough the bank account was closed because the bank said i was a risk to them. Later on i found out that it was closed because it was my first bank account and i needed to show proof of ID to the bank. I want to open up a couple of bank accounts under my dads name. I was wondering if it would be better to go with him and tell him to open up these accounts at the bank or would it be safe and problem free to open them up online?

rsot 07-25-2011 05:29 PM

So much better to open them yourself under your name and show ID - build relationship with your bank - why not?

lakeman 07-25-2011 06:50 PM

Rsot is right on.

Loophole, you've been here a while now, so I'm sure you've seen some of the horror stores from people using family members info.

It would be a much better decision to go into the bank abs open the account under your name.

stealthmaster 07-25-2011 07:44 PM

What I clearly don't understand is you clearly haven't grasped the concept of going stealth have you "Loophole", because you've been a member on here for a while you've got the stealth guide. But then again your finding difficulties in applying for new Bank accounts, never ever use family members because it will all end in tears. Apply for the Bank account in your sole name and your name only, I've never opened a US Bank account although being a UK national I wouldn't need to. I hope you resolve this issue my friend!

rsot is right on again ;)

I open all mine up online. BOA. WOrks fine every time.

NYCLiz 07-28-2011 05:41 PM

All US banks need ID before opening an account, at least your first one with them, no matter how you do it.

Regardless....No way would I use a family member's account for a stealth PP.

banshee4231 07-28-2011 08:09 PM

Bank Of America don't.. i opened 13 Bank of America accounts in the last 120 days online.

never had to go into the bank for anything, never had to show id or SS card..

I also opened accounts online for my girlfriend for nothing related too ebay, She needed a bank account and set her up online as well with i believe was Ally

NYCLiz 07-28-2011 08:16 PM

They did that for a new person with no account there.....with no signature card mailed and no ID required?

They made me go in and show them everything for the account I opened less than a month ago. Something is not right, they have strict laws in the US now, but things do get overlooked.

banshee4231 07-28-2011 08:44 PM

Im not saying you are right or i am right.....................

I do know, I never went in and filled out anything,. And all of my accounts have 3 sub accounts as well on them..

All are active and debit cards activated at ATM and I have withdrawn off of all of them..

What type of account did you open with BOA ?

unkown5454 07-28-2011 08:55 PM

I must try this with BoA. Quite unbelievable if it works.

waterproof 07-28-2011 09:06 PM

I strongly agree too with going to your financial institution on your own to open your account with your own personal information. Like Lakeman said above...there are a LOT of Horror stories doing otherwise.

Good luck

I never physically went into BOA for my accounts either. You have to do a bunch of crap online though to verify you.. Even do a signature with your mouse. lol..

Been a year or so on one and never have been inside the bank.

I believe you! I am just amazed they are getting away with it. It reminds me a bit of the major pharmacy that got busted for not tracking/limiting sales of certain over the counter drugs used to make Meth.....it will come back to haunt them possibly. But, you might as well use it while you can!

I opened a checking and savings account. I already had an account with them, but they still made me come in.

NYCLiz 07-30-2011 01:17 PM

They told me if I did it online, they would still have to mail me a signature card to sign and send back in. Classic example of one hand not knowing what the other hand is doing?

KingRay 07-30-2011 06:38 PM

Odd, I just did one 2 weeks ago and didnt get anything saying I need to come in. They do the sig cards online now for BOA. They did with mine. Odd that they do different things for dif people. Maybe it has something to do with past history, credit, location, etc.

sounds like EB/PP lol

adl0816 07-30-2011 07:17 PM

I have a checking account with BoA right now. How do I open up sub-accounts?

KingRay 07-30-2011 07:28 PM

From wht I have read its sounds like it is easier to just go to the counter and do it.

I just open new accounts every time completely separate.

Go to their site, select eChecking and check the box that says you are an existing customer.

NYCLiz 07-31-2011 10:19 AM

I should have said what they are "allegedly" doing.

There is a law against what BOA is doing, so I think it is just being overlooked randomly.

gtaforever00 07-31-2011 05:44 PM

Well I opened my Bank of America checking account online and they did not send my anything about verification, but a week later I got a letter saying my account had been closed do to high risk. I called them and they said it was because I opened it online and if I came into the office I could open another account with them. I guess it is different for different people and places.
