TMiles 04-04-2008 08:08 AM

This 21 day hold was announced in January. It was part of the overall changes EBAY made to the fee structure, feedback, etc. It is suppose to apply only to high risk categories. Further, if you have over 100 feedbacks, this is not suppose to affect you.....

TMiles 04-04-2008 08:10 AM

Jonas, no that will not work. You have to ship. Paypal will simply hold the funds up to 21 days. They supposedly are trying to stop fraud. Likewise, they want the buyer to inspect the item before releasing the funds. Once again, this is not suppose to affect all items, only certain categories.

imjustme 04-04-2008 11:20 AM

I never got this, even today when I listed items for $70-$90 on brand new accounts.

Jonas 04-05-2008 06:44 AM

I have seen sellers sometimes saying that, but they're small time.

TMiles2564 how do you know it won't work? Can you explain?

I think if you do try it, it's very important to explain, "PayPal is not licensed as an escrow service or even licensed as a bank and so PayPal acting as an escrow service is against the law."

To those facing the hold ...in what category are you selling?

jscan 04-05-2008 08:48 PM

VERO products ??

divine422 04-13-2008 07:31 PM

mainly high priced items like laptops

Seller 04-13-2008 07:50 PM

I am looking at the glass half full on this one. I think it will help our cause more than hurt it.
This will ultimately decrease the number of paypal accounts that are limited because there is less risk. Why would they need to limit accounts if they hold the funds until the buyer is satisfied. If you are not satisfying buyers, you should not be selling on ebay anyway.
So as long as you ship fast, satisfy customers I think you should see much less limitations on your accounts.

doughboykilla 04-13-2008 11:00 PM

Just another way paypal can collect intrest off the sellers money as well as haveing a way to refund the fuardlnt buyers who get there items and then compline that its the wrong item or they decide they dont want it or find it cheaper somewhere else they can easliy get the funds back from paypal then decied if they want to ship your items back or not.

F paypal and i wouldnt ship nothing till i seen the money but better yet i wont even use paypal! havent used them in about 2 years now and still made a hefty profit :)

tenggo 04-14-2008 05:15 AM

you aint seen nothin yet

i guess by now you guys have seen some subtle changes with your accounts, needing credit card to open buyers account, 21 day hold on paypal payments... thats nothing, it is all just getting ready to introduce paypal as the ONLY payment method, announced here in australia a few days ago...here is the link to the anouncement...

http://www2.ebay.com/aw/au/200804.sh...08-04-10105658 there is also a petition against it
http://www.petitiononline.com/ebayau/petition.html

my guess is that if it goes through here where they are using us as guinea pigs it will be coming soon to an ebay near you...

so modee your mantra of "paypal is a dead end"
sorry mate, it will be the only thing there is soon...

My items which are selling in a popular category, that are selling for around £15 each, still apply to this hold.

I agree, as I've said in previous posts, it is growing to become the only viable payment option.

divine422 04-16-2008 10:06 PM

Im curious how the 21 day holds are doing for people that encountered them. Do they hold every single transaction if you dont fit the criteria?

extension 04-17-2008 09:33 AM

How would you know PayPal placed 21 day hold on your money?

How would you know that paypal have placed a 21 day hold on your money? Where would it say that?

imjustme 04-17-2008 10:07 AM

I never had anything being held, but from what I heard the funds are just not available for withdrawal and the payment may show as 'Pending' or something.

Jonas 04-17-2008 03:23 PM

If paypal holds your money, you can get an electronic label with tracking printed ahead of time up to a bit in advance.

divine422 04-17-2008 05:37 PM

ilmao ^^:D

21 day Hold

I was selling stuff from one of my accounts. Fine no prob. Then when I sold the fourth - BAM! 21 day hold.

Does this mean eBay/Paypal is suspicious? Or is it random? Or does it always happen around the 4th item or after a certain amount of money?

And finally, does it mean all paypal payments from that point on will be subject to a 21 day hold?

Exeneva 05-29-2008 03:53 PM

This exact thing happened to me. Not only the fourth, but also the fifth payment sent to me. This absolutely makes me furious, because Paypal is supposed to just be a middleman, not an escrow service.

divine422 05-30-2008 10:45 AM

Got My First Hold Today

Great!

Ok so i havent seen anyone really monitor this process and how efficient they are in releasing the hold once shipment is confirmed. I will track the progress for future reference. And it had to be on the weekend right!

Friday, May 30th, 2008 - Buyer pays for item valued at $740 and funds instantly held at 11:30am

Im off to Canada post!

imjustme 05-30-2008 11:17 AM

I rarely sell anything above $80 so I never had a hold. But I imagine they would surely hold a $740 payment. How many points does your eBay account have? New?

divine422 05-30-2008 11:25 AM

The account is over a year old but i just recently started using it and i have 20 positive feedback. This is my most expensive item i have sold on this account. And it hasnt gone through the initial limitation (submit documents etc etc)...i was expecting that.

Another interesting thing about the hold that i just realized is PayPal said "if a buyer leaves a negative feedback but does not initiate a dispute, PayPal would release the funds to the seller after 21 days."

Ouch. So for those buyers casually leaving neutrals and negs just because they can...that can actually really screw a seller over for at least a month, if they have a hold.

SuperBowl 05-30-2008 11:36 AM

me too, they hold an amount of $273 this morning. i printed the USPS label from paypal using my cc on file. they said they will release the money if:
the buyer leaves a + feedback or 3 days after the item confirmed shipped.
i will update you guys?
i have another question : if i received several payments under $100 , they can hold the money because the sum is over $100 or they treat every single payment seperately?
thanks

Seller 05-30-2008 12:16 PM

I was given three holds this morning on amounts all less than 15 dollars.

imjustme 05-30-2008 12:32 PM

How come I never get holds, not even on $80 items on 2 week old accounts. This is so unfair.

divine422 05-30-2008 12:33 PM

are they 'hold happy' today or something.

Look at all the free interest they get:mad:

SuperBowl 05-30-2008 02:52 PM

they limited my paypal account after 1 hour of receiving the money and printing the label.
i resolved all they need expect the shipping info because i can't edit the tracking info yet. maybe i should wait after tomorrow?

thelizardking 05-30-2008 03:46 PM

I received several payments today none held, only 1 was over $100 but they didn't hold it...I usually don't receive over $100 for a single payment but I guess if I do and they hold it I will just refund and have them use CCnow or Google...

SuperBowl 05-30-2008 03:48 PM

how old is your account? it has some feedback?
thanks

thelizardking 05-30-2008 03:50 PM

Its about 8 months, almost 100fb

divine422 05-30-2008 04:01 PM

May 30th 3:00pm Item shipped.

I shipped it out asap, even upgraded to priority free of charge. My buyer was very pleased, not like i really did it for them, faster they get the item the better for me. But of course i made it look like a promotional thing. Well see what happens next. Im expecting another large amount on Sunday, so im kinda anticipating the account getting limited. But im prepared.

Interestingly enough i sold the exact same item on my other account sold for about $800 it wasnt held but the account was limited, supplied all the documents and the limitation was removed. Every since i have been making a steady high amount on that account and nothing has ever been held. I made that paypal account last year i just had it hanging around so i decided to use it. This one thats currently has funds on hold is about 3 months old.

Maybe they consider Japan low risk?

aznb0i 06-03-2008 04:49 AM

PayPal $0.66 hold

So I sold something for $0.99 on my new ebay account and paypal put a hold on it for $0.66 for 21 days. I thought they put a hold on it for $100 or over.

jscan 06-03-2008 05:25 AM

LOL. now thats funny
66 cents what a joke

divine422 06-03-2008 10:05 AM

ilmao thats hilarious...they wont hold it for 21 days once the buyer leaves positive feedback.

imjustme 06-03-2008 10:39 AM

You ain't going to run off with those 66 cents!

MasterChief 06-03-2008 10:45 AM

66 cents!
Obviously a VeRO item!

zymo 06-03-2008 02:09 PM

It appears that ALL Ebay payments are now being held for 21 days. I had a 14.00 payment held.

sdot10 06-03-2008 02:24 PM

this is quite absurd. Do you think they are just trying to turn into an escrow service? someone needs to challenge the legality of this.
