AMERICAN EXPRESS online savings account FAILURE for stealth purposes

I just tested American Express online savings bank account with withdrawing with mismatched names to paypal. The deposits do not go through to the savings accounts. Not even the 2 trial deposits went through.

So dont use American Express Online savings accounts for paypal, does not work. Just wanted to say.

Stickied & Means to End list noted :)

Did you mark it as savings or checking in paypal?

yotano211 07-14-2012 05:50 AM

I marked it with savings account with paypal. I marked one by accident with checking and still did not work. I tried it with 4 accounts with them and nothing went through, not even the two trail deposits.

They only allow saving accounts, they dont have any checking accounts.

Hmm I used the American Express Prepaid card and the deposits went through just fine. It's weird that the savings didn't work... haven't tried that.

Yes, it works for fast deposits because greendot takes 2-3 days whislt Amarican express funds are there next day and the cool part is they email you the funds went into your account.

Not the best option for mismatched names, they usually suspend you.

I guess I should have stated that.. it was a stealth account that I attached to my prepaid card (which has the routing/account number for direct deposits) so it worked just fine. BUt it wasnt an actual savings account.

Wow, I have had a pre-paid American Express card but was leery to use it because after I received it in the mail I called to activate, got the routing info and specifically asked the rep on the phone if it'd work for Paypal and he said no it wouldn't. I'm thinking I'll try it now. Thanks:nerd:

Name mismatch is not a problem for withdrawal. I've noticed sometimes paypal have trouble with some bank account numbers. If its possible, please ask the bank to change the account number and try again.

Many Advertise as banks but they are not even a Bank, and the local banks will kill you with the fees

amex is always difficult. lots of prepaid visa cards out there though

I doubt that using your own name will link your accounts.
If Paypal had to stop and look closely at every "John Smith," or "Michael Miller,"
or "Jim Johnson," "Peter Williams,"
then they would waste all their time chasing waterfalls.

If they checked every matching First/Last name on Ebay,
less than 1% of users would be Stealth Ninja Ebay Users.

I used to believe my own name was unique,
but I just typed my name into facebook, and I can see dozens and dozens of my name.

Just found a website, How Many of Me
There are over 45,000 people in the US alone named John Smith.
Type in your own name to discover that you are not a unique snowflake (for the record, it's a myth that each snowflake is unique).

If you discover that there are only a few hundred people in your country with your name, then you can legally change your name for a hundred bucks.

Then you won't have to worry about using nicknames, or mismatched names with transfers between PP and your bank.

newjerseymax 08-23-2013 01:56 AM

There are 1 or fewer people in the U.S. XXXXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Ouch! LOL

Brainbuster 08-23-2013 10:34 PM

NewJerseyMax ...you are a unique snowflake.

My reasoning might still suggest that at least Ebay's first step of catching stealth accounts does not include sifting through first and last names. That might be important if accounts are already linked by some other way, and then a human looks into it.

So, I'm not carving this in stone, but if you're name is
Cottonballs Squeegee-Fuzznuts Fun-yuns, then you could make several accounts using your real name, and if you do everything else perfectly, then Eby/PP won't notice you, even though your name is unique (in the strictest sense of the word).

However...Why not use a cognate of your name.
Just for fun and to sort of discover this, I came up with 14 different versions of my own name while writing to a friend.

While there are only 55 of me (same first and last name), I found 2,308 people in this country with one of the 14 versions of my name I came up with.

If you can't think of another version of your name, I suggest you find out what your name is in another language. This way, a bank teller running a transfer won't flinch when she sees a different name. She'll assume that you normally use your "Americanized" name while in America, but your birth name was Russian.

For example:

Peter can become Petar (Brosnian), Petro (Albanian), Petr (Czech), Petri (Finnish), Petero (Swahili), Pietro (Italian)

John can become Juan, Giovanni, Johannes, Johan, Jon, Johnny, Jonas, Johnathan, Jonathan, Nathan, etc...

Not sure how to pronounce "XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXX," so I'll let you tinker with that, NJmax.
