Default Can your real name be seen on DBA /sole proprietor

I have been searching the forums for an answer but havent found 1 yet.

If I open a business as sole proprietor for paypal/ebay I have a question ....For example:
Personal Name DBA Business name.
John Doe DBA Ebay Sales

Will this be a problem for them matching the ein? If I have an ein and only use "Ebay sales" as the business name...will an incorrect match come up since the whole DBA is John Doe DBA Ebay Sales....or can I just get by with the Ebay Sales being the business name?

Has anyone used dba for the ein? Or is the best option an LLC where there is no chance for your name dba can be matched?

This is not an issue for tax purposes...I own a service business already...I just need to know the best/safest way for ebay/paypal not to link my personal info. My accountant takes care of all my tax issues.

Thanks..and if there is a thread on this please link so I can read the answers. I might have missed the thread.

DBA just means..... literally..... write this down....

DOING

BUSINESS

AS

Let me google that for you

So.... it's just a term widely used meaning literally, you're doing business under a different name. A good example is cellco partnership, doing business as verizon wireless. Of course you know about verizon wireless, but cellco partnership doesn't sound as good. So..... they get a DBA, giving them a fictitious name

It's not needed to get a DBA to do business as so and so... it's just a good idea so when you apply for an EIN, it's cleaner.

Any sole proprietor that didn't get some kind of articles of incorporation but do business under a fictitious name, such as joe blow and joe blows copper stealing service, will most likely not get an EIN and use their social security number for everything. You can get an EIN/tax ID for this, and it's the better way to go to maintain privacy.

DBA name can be matched? By whom?

The safest way for ebay to NOT match your personal info is to read the stealth guide, and make an account under an alias and use all new information such as date of birth, address, credit card, email, etc...

BTW... if I have your EIN, or tax ID... I can't just call the IRS and get info for you. No one can.

It sounds like you're making this too complicated.

To answer your question.... when you register for an EIN online, it asks you what kind of business it is. If it's you and you're doing business as.... it's a sole proprietor. Of course if you own an LLC or s-corp or c-corp, choose that.

Yes, people have used DBA's to obtain EIN's. It's standard. Another option..... Joe Blow Copper Stealing LLC, DBA: Copper Liberation Front applies for an EIN.

Make sense?
