How should I handle this customer issue...

Seems whenever I encounter a problem or customer issue on ebay my instinct is to ask you guys before making any sudden moves...

I shipped an item to France through the ebay global shipping program. Unfortunately the item apparently got damaged in transport.

A case was opened against me through paypal, and the buyer sent me a message in French that says the item was damaged in transport and to please send another.

Something tells me paypal will side with the buyer all the time on cases like these. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Also, should I risk sending another item and risk it getting "damaged" again, or would you just issue a full refund and be done with it? The sale was only for $8.00, so it's not like it would be that huge of a loss.

Refund it, it's only $8

I sold a jacket on eBay for £180 and it was some guy from France who bought it.

I posted it out recorded delivery signed for.

A few weeks later the guy opened a case saying he didn't receive it.

RM was saying it had been delivered I provided the tracking number to PP and they decided in my favour.

For $8 it's really not worth the hassle or bad feedback.

Would just deal with the refund of $8 seriously....to preserve status of the account - who knows what other claims come down the future that are BEYOND your control...you need to clear up the little things in a simple way without PP judging against - chances are good that you would lose a case like this.

Did you buy tracking? Insurance? Could claim with post office if so - possibly.

Yes I put tracking on the item, but not insurance. For $8 though, you guys are right. I will just refund the money.

But I do not want to send another replacement item like the buyer requested. For all I know, it will get "damaged" again.

Right decision on this one. Better to take the loss and move on. Make sure you block the buyer.

OP you did the right thing. Customer always right is true on EB.

The other issue is to decide if you want to ship items internationally.

Be careful here.

This global shipping program has its shortcomings.

Block the buyer.

Consider changing shipping options.

Anything can be a thread, regardless of $ amount - a chance to impart knowledge...and share experience :yar:
