Paypal disputes transaction. Please Help
 
I sold some digital goods (bad news I assume) and received a dispute from paypal. The buyer is fine, and would be happy to resend the payment or whatever. But paypal apparently wants to make sure that I am the one who is supposed to be accepting payments.
to quote:
"you have received a payment that we believe may not have been authorized by the PayPal account holder. Here are the details... ect"

The buyer had to change passwords and go through some security check, but got it sorted out.

For resolution, I can click:
-I have not shipped the item and would like refund
-can provid proof that the item was shipped through approved shipper
-Have refunded the payment for this transaction
-None of these

It then asks what I was selling and asks for a phone # to reach me.
Details on the account are stealth. Any ideas on how to proceed?

I attempted to cash out via gift certs. should the account be busted, but they put holds on my purchases. Did this raise more flags?

I have not seen this payment pending thing causing issues on YOUR end before.
It'll either clear and you ship or doesn't clear and it goes back.

So to answer you:

1. Since it's a non tangible item: "I have not shipped and would like to refund"
2. Put the phone # that's on file already.

3. stop trying to circumvent it, this is a normal thing you'll see from time to time.

Saijin, I'm confused. Are you saying that you CAN or CANNOT sell digital items through PayPal. My first thought was that digital items are banned, but then I remembered that was an eBay rule...

You are allowed to sell it but PayPal doesn't cover it under buyer protection.

Thanks a lot.
So to be clear, clicking "I have not shipped and would like to refund" would be the path of least resistance?
I did in fact send the items, but via email.
A refund is fine of course. The buyer will be happy to resend payment.

Could I just click "none of these" and say that I shipped the items via email?
I've heard pp is touchy about listing digital items. Will telling them that that was what was being sold cause any issue?

Yes, they are touchy about it... very much at that.

I would just treat it like a canceled transaction and refund so that PP sees that no money or goods exchange hands.

Of course, you are free to do whatever you want. Just keep us updated how it results in the end

I agree with SaiJin, you'll want to do "I have not shipped and would like to refund"

Don't mention anything about the item being virtual, just do the refund. Where it ask for buyers address place something like n/a

You should be fine.

That worked great. Just hit the refund, I didn't give much explanation beyond: i would like a refund. Hold lifted, refunded, no security check.

Unfortunately, the egifts I went for still have "temporary holds". Trying to get one refunded. The other I have the code for and may try to use it in store.

One hurdle at a time I guess. Thanks .
