Upgrade to Business Account
 

I tried to upgrade to business account on one of my stealth accounts and got the following message halfway through the process:

"This information is required to verify your identity. This helps us to keep the PayPal community safe as well as meet government regulations.

Social Security Number (last 4)
Date of birth

The Patriot Act requires all financial institutions to ask for your Social Security number and confirm your identity to help prevent money laundering."

I could not go any further unless I provided my SSN. It used to be where you could upgrade to a business account without immediately providing your SSN.

Is there any way around this at this point? Thanks for any help,

I think i read that some people have used the last 4 of the EIN

were you adding an EIN or just trying to upgrade to a biz

PayPal won't let me go anywhere further in the login unless I put in a SSN or EIN!!

It seems to be stuck at that SSN request page. I even logged out and logged back in and it keeps taking me to that same page where I have to put in the SSN!! Getting scared here, please help someone!!!

I logged out and back in several times and it keeps going to the same page with the same message:

I cannot escape this page!!! It keeps forcing me to go to that page and put in an SSN!! Please Help Someone!!!

Is there any way I can get EIN numbers to use for the PayPal verification? It doesn't look like PayPal is going to let me go any further without an EIN or SSN.

This also means I can't do anything with this account like transfer money to my bank account. I tried to do that and it keeps re-directing me to that same page to put in my EIN or SSN.!! :shocked:

When upgrading to a business account the option to add an EIN at a later time is no longer available and you are now required to add an EIN Right away

I went to the IRS website and tried to apply for an EIN and got the following message:

"We are unable to provide you with an EIN.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but based on the information provided we are unable to provide you with an EIN through this online assistant.

Please call 1-800-829-4933 FREE FREE for assistance. When outside the US, call 267-941-1099. TTY/TDD: 1-800-829-4059 FREE FREE.

Please have your information readily available, and mention reference number 101."

I already have a previous EIN and I used a different address this time (UPS store mailbox). I don't know if that was the problem or not?

Also, I selected "Started a new business"
(Select this option if you are beginning a new business.)

and also selected the option for Internet Sales when it asked for type of business.

Do you know if any of these choices would have caused the EIN not to be approved online?

What is the best reason to select when they ask for the purpose of the EIN?

I thought "Start a New Business" was the correct choice, isn't it? What is the best reason that I can give for wanting a second or third EIN?

What if I just call PayPal and tell them I initially thought about upgrading to a business account and then changed my mind?

I would explain that I cannot do anything within PayPal because every time I login to PayPal it keeps taking me back to the questions for completing the business account upgrade?

Good idea or not?

Try it , maybe say that you meant to keep your personal account and create a new separate business account.

Because when you click upgrade it gives you a choice to create a new business account or upgrade your personal to a business

And than your ur personal will be as it is and you can continue using it as normal and you have a business account and when you get your EIN u will be able to finish that

And that's all if they let you

Remember though it's a stealth account and they might want to verify the information..I would be calling from a number other than what is listed for the stealth account.

You have 2 options, you either need to call in or you need to call and find out about your EIN.

You should probably call the number they gave you and find out why ur EIN wasn't approved

I just checked the error code 101 online and found this:

Conflict with the entity name
A rejected EIN application indicating Reference Number 101 has a name conflict. The IRS requires a unique entity name before it will issue an EIN, similar to how the secretary of state requires a unique entity name within that state before Articles or Certificates of Formation may be successfully filed. However, because the IRS is a federal agency issuing EINs for entities in all 50 states, it potentially checks for duplicate entity names across multiple states. There are numerous references to a state on the online EIN application, such as the physical location state, mailing address state, and the state where the Articles are or will be filed. This is the most difficult error to fix and may require the application to be mailed or faxed; include a copy of the filed formation document (Articles of Organization, etc.) as I have had IRS agents request a copy in these situations.

I had this exact same problem but when I tried to create a new business account. I simply went to the IRS website and created a new EIN and it worked. Used my personal DOB associated with the EIN on PayPal. Worked.
