PayPal security check
 

So here's the deal, my Mac just died on me so I opened one of my accounts up on my iPad, which I don't normally do, went to purchase a new laptop on eBay and I get the usual security check from PayPal saying they don't recognize the device.

So I go through the check, choose my number and as usual it says "the number doesn't appear to be registered in your name". The question is, has anyone ever passed this check with a prepaid phone registered in the name used on PayPal because I've tried that before and it still didn't work.

I know the payment will go through eventually but it's real annoying, let me know what you guys think, thanks

Is it registered as mobile or home? i use google voice with tracfone

I use virgin prepaid but doesn't seem to make any difference whether the names match or not, still says the same thing, that the phone # isn't registered in my name.

Did u make the account with that same number? Or are you adding it

It's the same number that I made the account with which I still have access to, I think they still only accept land lines for these type of verifications, not sure.

Not much just a few hundred the funds that just became available, I'll just wait a couple days and it should go through, was just trying to find a way around waiting

He's not the only one getting this with an original number. Its been an ongoing thing lately. Not sure why.

Yea it's been an ongoing thing for awhile, was hoping to come up with a workaround, so far the only thing that works is just waiting it out

This is a horsesh*t verification that is impossible to pass. I have called paypal 4 different times and spent 45 minutes each time WITH NO HELP. Never able to send the text or automated call to my number. Cant send payment or pay invoices. Reps had no clue what was going on. Total waste of time. NOW its happening on ANOTHER account. This sh*t is ridiculous! The phone numbers are the same ones that have been attached to the accounts and are verified to the account and I have never changed them. GOOD LUCK...i havent had any.

This has happen to me also on a number of my accounts they wont let you add new phone number/ bank account etc after its been limited ( Even tho it says you can in the resolution center)... i dunno whats that about Im thinking its just another way paypal can get you to abandon your account.

ive done that also & lost thousands $$$ until i started focusing on all my limitation problems. I do know a way around it !!! ive had many limitation problems that ive had to figure out on my own bcuz no one here could tell me!!!

@phaz0rz there's no need for your sarcasm I was simply saying i had to think harder and work harder for what I was trying to accomplish. I understand the forum members are busy.. now that Ive been doing this for a while

I'M BUSY TOO managing multiple ebay/paypal accounts doing very well for myslef might i add.. isn't this a HELP FORUM? Keep in MIND phaz0rz ...usually when you HELP some one YOU HAVE TO BE "bothered to solve someone else's issue":shocked:

It worked! just got on eBay to try my purchase again, got the same security check only this time I kept trying over a few times and it finally went through!!

What did you "try over a few times"? Trying to verify your phone, or cancel and try and make the payment again later?

I just kept clicking the button, it never verified the phone, the transaction just finally went through.

I find it interesting that actually worked out for you.
Typically if you keep on trying, your account will get this soft limit even longer, and you might even receive a real limit on the account.

I spam the button when I get the verification request.

Google voice works with any phone, but you have to set up the account with that Gvoice number

Whenever I click "continue" to receive the automated call or text message, it always says "this number is not registered in your name" and if I click continue again, it will say call or email paypal. So I'm not sure what you guys are doing to push it through??

What kind of number is it, when did you add it, and you cant receive text from most vphone numbers. You use receive a phone call.

It was a prepaid phone but doesn't make any difference what number you use they never call it anyway which is why I don't even bother keeping an active number, you just wait it out and keep trying to make it go through until it go's through

Pre paid phones have a certain type for it to work, if you can get your hands on a gvoice number and add that number to paypal when you create the paypal. You can receive the verification "CALL" and get your account verified. If you cannot get a gvoice number you can try using textnow. With text now you have to send messages from it every few weeks to keep the number alive.

I've used google voice many times as well as some text apps, they all do the same thing, only thing I haven't done is phone verify the PayPal ahead of time, I could try that and see if that changes anything

Did you make the account with the gvoice number you are trying to use. Also did you set up the gvoice number to a phone or a cell phone so you can answer the paypal phone call. If not that may be a reason it did not work, just did a verification yesterday and worked with gvoice.

By verification I mean when paypal locks your account up untill you get a call from them to add the code. Not to full verify your account 80% is good enough

The account was made with the same number which still happens to be active, virgin prepaid, the account isn't locked, it's the verification you get when trying to withdraw or make a purchase from a new computer.

Like stated above with prepaids you have to get a specific type for it to work, while gvoice works 100% of the time for phone verifications. If added correctly

I got the same problem now, can not add a bank to the account. The account was an old business account made in 2013. The device was an old good one as well, using that for a long time at least half year.

I'm really stuck here now.

Should I just keep on trying "text me" button? Though it always say it can not verify my number.

I kept on trying to one of my 180 days account and got it through after a few days. But not sure about a good account. Will it raise a flag?

What is the best way?

Its the same, just try every 2-3 days but not every day it might take longer, sometimes it can take over a week but its always gone through eventually in my experience..

Its because its a glitch.

If it happens once then that's normal. Usually you have to call to get it fixed or wait a couple days. They will tell you its a glitch that doesn't fix itself unless someone manual does it OR wait 2-3 days.

One of the silliest glitches and they STILL have it 6+ months, at least that I've seen.

Just can not believe they let it stay like that for so long. Or they do it on purpose. So someone do call in and get caught.

It's not exactly a glitch, rather an inappropriate screen.
What Paypal really should display is the "We cannot send your payment at this time" message. Whenever you get this message or the verify your identity screen, this indicates your account has been flagged for a soft limit.

Typically, waiting it out fixes the problem.

But after successfully adding the bank card, will you be able to send the micro deposit or the same thing will happen again?

Just worry if I pass this adding bank issue, will it happen all the time when I try to verify the bank, withdraw money... that will be horrible.

The mobile app is your friend
Emulators like blue stacks works well too just make sure you completely delete the app and reinstall it if you want to use another account not just clear cache
