| ProblemChild | 06-27-2016 09:43 AM | I ****ed up I logged onto my bank online while I was still connected to a VPN location from venezuela
suffice to say, the account is deleted and never will be brought backwith all my money on it, stupid mistake on my part:smash::smash::smash::smash::smash::smash::sma sh: |
Re: I ****ed up What - bank account was deleted? Please clarify... |
| JamesNorth101 | 06-27-2016 10:14 AM | Re: I ****ed up Banks would not delete your account because you logged in from overseas
Have you talked to the bank? |
| ProblemChild | 06-27-2016 10:16 AM | Re: I ****ed up yeah they took my card and kept it , they said the account is deleted and there is nothing they can do about it,
only reason i know why it would happen is because i logged in the account while connected to a vpn |

Re: I ****ed up That would not be the reason. A VPN is literally an IP in a different country, your saying all BOA customers who travel to Venezuela and login to do online banking would have their account terminated? No chance.
Your activity within the account must of caused suspicion. Can you elaborate how you were operating these accounts? |
Re: I ****ed up Seems very weird - did you have real ID on file with your bank? Or was it false details? (Something that should NEVER be done) |

Re: I ****ed up I really don't think it was ONLY due to a VPN access... |
| JamesNorth101 | 06-27-2016 12:00 PM | Re: I ****ed up Firstly was this bank account opened in your real details? |
| slokor | 06-27-2016 12:02 PM | Re: I ****ed up First off there is no way it was just the VPN - or rather logging in from a foreign country. People travel all the time. If anything that would put a temporary security lock on the account or wont allow you to login from that specific location.
And second - even if they did decide to terminate your service with them there is no way Bank of America would 'steal' your funds. They would communicate with you to have you provide them with what they need to send you your money.
There is more to this story and we dont have enough info to figure out what happened and why. |
| BigCJ | 06-27-2016 12:12 PM | Re: I ****ed up Sounds like you were putting too much money into a personal account instead of business? |
| ProblemChild | 06-27-2016 12:35 PM | Re: I ****ed up Okay heres what happened,
I opened a bank account at BOA,
Got a temporary card, deposited 25 bucks
withdrew the 25 bucks,
then added my bannk account to my paypal
a day later
then transfered 50 bucks from my paypal
i bought some stuff, food, etc etc, then my balance was like 40 bucks
i went to the bank to withdraw it, and it said that my withdrawl limit has been exceeded
this was like 11 pm at night
so the next morning i call and ask why i cant withdraw the money,
they tell me that the card has been purged, that the card has been cancelled for some reason, they didnt tell me why, they tell me go to the bank and get another temporary card
so i go and get the temporary card, withdraw my 40 bucks, and im good
then friday, i withdraw 150 to my bank from my pp account
it deposits to my bank acc by monday
i paid a bill over the phone this morning
then i go to the groceries, i go and get food for the next couple of weeks or so
i start checking out, i swipe my card, and it says not authorized,
im like wtf, so i try again and **** (thank god i went to self checkout)
and it didnt work
so then i leave the store, go to the bank, and try to withdraw the money
the atm says the card isnt able to work
so i walk into the bank and ask why it isnt working , one lady told me that they wont be able to give me another card and just to wait till the permanent card gets there but im still able to withdraw the money through the bank teller upfront
so i go to the bank teller upfront and tell her i need to withdraw my money, and she has me swipe the card, of course it doesnt work
she ask for the card and i give it to her, and she tells me that the account is in the process of being closed, and that she wont be able to give me back my card,
and thats it
i asked her why, she said she doesnt know you would need to talk to so and so and so but she said the account is deleted
i dnt know wth happned |

| slokor | 06-27-2016 12:39 PM | Re: I ****ed up I highly doubt this has anything to do with the IP address.
I would go to the bank manager and have a chat with him about it. Doesnt sound like theres much else you can do.
And good thing you dont have any money tied up in there. |
| newjerseymax | 06-27-2016 12:44 PM | Re: I ****ed up Possibly mismatched names issue... The IP could have flagged it as a possible hack, then reviewed account and seen mismatched names...
You could easily talk your way into getting this fixed. Just tell them you and your cousin share the account and he lives overseas, hence the IP. Just tell them you will have him come in and be added when he visits....
This should get it fixed...
Just an example... Br creative and ready for all questions. Remember you are customer and need to have the confidence that they work for you. |
| Sistermoon | 06-27-2016 04:32 PM | Re: I ****ed up Same thing happened to a friend of mine and they put it and his name in system so he was not allowed to make any new bank accounts in any bank for 2 years. even online banks. |
| phaz0rz | 06-27-2016 04:59 PM | Re: I ****ed up I read your story and I find it extremely strange they closed your account so quickly. Did you use any false info that you were busted on? Do you have terrible credit or a bad chexsystems report?
I had my BoA account closed last year but I know exactly why. What happened to me may be relevant to you. Mine was closed because I wasn't leaving enough money in the accounts. I would receive several thousand dollars over a week and withdraw all but $50 on Monday. They frown upon such suspicious activity, so they "closed" my account. But my "closed" account is still active to this day, and I just got a statement today from BoA. I can withdraw money to BoA still (although I'm afraid to do large amounts), but my debit card and online banking account are disabled.
Regardless, they haven't stolen whatever money you had in the account. I've had two bank accounts closed in my life. One sent a regular First Class letter and the other sent a certified letter informing me of the closure. In both cases though I had to go into the branch and get a cashier check for the balance of any accounts. |

I really don't think the name had anything to do with it, unless this bank account was created with a stolen identity. Frankly that's what it sounds like to me, with the reaction OP is getting from BoA. |
| yaBeh8ater | 06-27-2016 07:20 PM | Re: I ****ed up mi had a boa account that is still running. i used it with paypal but the account got limited back in april. i have had only one problem with boa. that is my debit card. every time i tried to use it i got declined. couldnt even buy dark souls 3 with my card. but as far as the account i had zero problems. i even wrote my mom a check for 4,000 because the nearest branch is 193 miles away.
once i get my account closed im opening back up with them. |
Re: I ****ed up @OP, did you let the account go negative for long periods of time? |
| Onion | 06-27-2016 08:48 PM | Re: I ****ed up I used my BOA debit card in Venezuela and Brazil with no problems. Have you spoke with a Branch Manager to see whats the issue? It might be a simple mix up, ya never know. |

There is more to this story and we dont have enough info to figure out what happened and why. | Exactly. This happened to my friend before with a much larger amount than a couple of hundred bucks. They will mail you a check for whatever funds you had left and might block you from opening a bank of america account. |

Then having that card being used a couple of hours later on a different country's IP would flag it again.
Now in case you think I am waffling.....
Say you used the card at 20:00hrs with a US based IP but the next transaction was at say 23:30 hrs from an overseas IP, then there is a big flag. Flight time to Venezuela is more than 3 hours, if you get my drift.

| mophie | 06-27-2016 09:25 PM | Re: I ****ed up Some one mentioned mismatch names, false identity or suspicious activity.
Are you a tourist who opened a bank account here with BoA? If all this is false and you actually had funds on one account, and they have closed your account. File a dispute or in a rare case, lots of folks end up on Chexsystems or other bank consumer bureaus, some banks pull a ChexSystems report for example days later.
But I think, your bank found some suspicious activity in your account and took action, from what you say they can even blacklist you. |
| ProblemChild | 06-29-2016 07:17 AM | Re: I ****ed up okay so I called BOA they told me that my account isnt being deleted, only my card was getting deactivated and that I could go to the branch and get a new temp card, so thats what I did, but when I got to the branch, they told me my account is getting deleted , but they let me take the rest of my balance out, i told them that my cousin in a different country logged in to my acc, but she said she doesnt know if thats the reason or not, |
| slapped | 06-29-2016 07:33 AM | Re: I ****ed up Banks do NOT close accounts for no reason. I have had accounts closed, and I have always known why, I have never agreed with their reasoning, but, at least I have always known why they were closing the account, and I was always advised in WRITING, ALWAYS, so something is very wrong with your account,,, |
Re: I ****ed up slapped is right on - banks will send you something in writing.
I had a business account closed with a Canadian bank recently because a payee to the account caused me a lot of problems with chargebacks - as an example - and I had a detailed letter from the bank. |

Banks can not afford to "just close" accounts.
They have strict safety procedures to avoid the cost of fraud...to THEM.
If it smells, they close up accounts.
Been that way for years. And will be that way for years to come.
:nerd:
Question is have we the whole accurate story?

| We most definitely do not have the whole story, lol. Any typical account closure is accompanied by a certified letter and cashier's check.
The fact that the bank won't even release any money in the accounts really make's this seem like fraud. |
