Default Is SSN verification inevitable?

Hello, I've set up an eBay account under a friends name and address and I only look to sell a few items a month like I would with a personal account. I would rather not ask the friend for his own SSN as it's a bit too personal. Would Paypal still request a SSN in this case, and what exactly causes PP to request it? Thanks for any help on this matter.

First off - I support Yankee's comment. Never use a friend's info. Should anything happen to the account that friend will never be able to use ebay with his real info and I cannot imagine that would be healthy for any friendship you have with him.
As for the SSN - it is totally avoidable as long as you do things properly and by the book (the book in this case being the stealth guide). Also, to avoid having to deal with SSN requests dont cross the annual limit paypal has of $20,000 per year.
Out of curiosity - why use a friend's info instead of doing things properly and just going stealth? I really see no excuse for going that way.
