I just ran into this same issue today trying to get an account off limitation. I used my t-mobile prepaid and they knew it was a cell. I guess I need to find a call-forwarding service, to route calls to my cellphone now? If anyone would like to PM me some hints as to best call forwarding services, etc it'd be greatly appreciated =)

I told them that I have not had a land line since 1987.

So, I decided to try a call forwarding service to confirm my location on paypal. My only remaining question, is this...Once you dial my new local number, the call forwarding service kicks in, and there's a greeting that says "please hold while I connect you". Is that going to cause any problems with paypal? After that, it rings my normal phone and I can answer, but I'm wondering if that greeting will set off any alarms, as I don't know of any try land line that has a greeting lol. Any ideas? If that's not a problem, I guess I'm good to go =)

what service are you using? I liked google voice, unlimited numbers for $10.

I'm using ringcentral. It seemed like a few members supported it, and they have a free trial which suits me perfect since I only need to use it once. I just need to know if that automated greeting is going to cause any issues, or if other people used it with that and it worked fine =/

You'll need it more than once, unless you plan on tossing your account before they ever do the followup calls. If you intend to keep your account, expect them to call from time to time. That's why I use real numbers and keep them active. If they do a follow up and you don't directly answer with your living breathing self, BOOM - limited.

With google voice, you can bypass that auto message and have it jump direct to your phone immediately.

I didn't even know there were follow up calls lol. Honestly, this is the first account I'm trying to get off limitation, and the only thing they asked of me, was to confirm my location. From what I've read on here, ringcentral is good for that...I just need to know if the automated greeting has caused any issues for anyone, since I can't figure out any way in the preferences, to eliminate it =(

Once (if) I do get this account off limitation I probably wont put any substantial amount of $ through it for many months. I just want the limitation removed, so I can get the $ in there now out.

There are a few members who have already posted some good suggestions in other threads within the past few days. I believe bluemoon999 had some decent info. Check bluemoon999's profile and view recent posts using the stats tab.

Nearly every one of those has some method to disable the automated crap.

If you only want to use it temporarily, what will you do when that random call comes - them checking on you? It really does happen. And whenever it comes, it better REALLY be you answering, not a voicemail or an automated message saying the number is not in service. Run a search in the forum, you'll see.

It's very disappointing to see people with shortsighted plans. I wish more users here would think bigger and in the long term. Instead of the quickie crackhead fixes just because they think the easy way is the only way...

Get a phone and keep it active, just like you should keep a bank account active if you get the 180 day dear john kiss-off. People need to quit throwing pschit away just because they think they don't need it any more. Thing is - YOU STILL NEED IT.

These people that want to 'chuck away' a phone are not doing business. They are playing. There would be few companies around that do not have a phone number for contact. :boink:
You want to do the ebay business, keep a phone available. The costs are low: factor that into your business plan: sell say x2 items at $15 & there's two months of phone costs
(which plan I seriously doubt many have 'cos they are just playing in any case :rolleyes:)

Yep. I don't see the point of ditching a phone that is cheap to maintain. All it gets you is an account limitation. It costs more money to continuously re-obtain a stealth account and/or lost time getting a limitation removed. A well set up account will hold up nicely with much less problem, thus a seller can focus more on the bottom line. Phone is one factor that should be taken seriously.

I don't know if it's really fair to say that everyone who chooses to throw away a phone, or account is just playing (or looking for a quickie crackhead fix lol). In my opinion, the only way to really know exactly what paypals limitations are (or what's to be expected from them under a certain scenario), is to push them. I have a handful of accounts that I keep totally active for business, and I rotate a few accounts to experiment with. With those accounts that I use to experiment with, I'm really not pressed to maintain everything, because they weren't set up or run totally according to the ideal stealth account to begin with...that was the experiment.

While in some situations, I'm sure the account holder would be better off maintaining everything to the best of their ability all the time, sometimes you are probably better off starting from scratch with an account that is totally done right (and therefore has never had any limitations to begin with). For my purposes, an account that has already had a limitation placed on it isn't really worthwhile. I don't need the account for business, and anything that happens to it from here on, could simply be due to it's previous limitation.

However...I would still like to know if anyone using ringcentral, has had any issues calling paypal to confirm location due to the automated greeting. I did read some of bluemoons posts a while ago, but it seemed that they were mostly my1voice specific...If I could figure out a similar fix on ringcentral, I'd be golden. Looking back, I probably should have just used my1voice or google voice first, since the forum already had so much detailed info about those services =/

I covered the part about not needing to keep a phone for an account deliberately meant to be disposable. I realize for experimenting or other reasons, disposable is fine. I said so. See post #29 [1st sentence and right after the comma](which was a decent reply to your #28).

I was pointing out the other side of the issue for those who sometimes 'don't get it' when they keep getting nailed when it *might* be because the don't answer the freakin' phone.

Wasn't necessarily meant to target YOU specifically.

People should stop speed-reading me and then grumping 2 seconds after.
