I have always used AVS-based cards in this manner to make purchases without exposing my real details for intangible goods and have never encountered a problem,...

All of the digits within an address need to match the card, however all of the text can be changed.
For example, if I had a NatWest debit card registered to:
123 Pudding Lane,
London, E1 1AA...
