Not necessarily looking forward to it, but I don't see it being a huge issue either. What's the problem if you're paying proper postage?

Is this only for stamps.com customers? What about customers who buy postage using other methods... does that mean that if USPS cannot charge them the difference that they will simply ship the package back to the return address? Or...?

This has been in effect for almost two years. Nothing has changed with this. The difference is they have taken the UPS/FEDEX approach and will bill you back.

Supposedly if they detect any overpayment, they will credit your account.

Kirkland was saying in his thread he got the notice on Endicia too, so I'm going to guess this new policy applies to any customer with an online postage or USPS business account. It's cheaper for them to bill you for the missing postage versus returning the package to sender. So they'll try to bill you first. If they have no way to bill you because you paid cash at a PO, then I think it's safe to assume USPS will either charge your buyer for the missing postage or return the shipment to you.

Highly doubtful with their eternal budget shortfall, lol.

Overpay on one of your shipments and let me know how it goes.

Your USPS account with your address linked - so won't work with stealth accounts

All online USPS shipping accounts are issued a postal license by the post office nearest you and linked to a virtual postage meter. Go to the "help" tab in the stamps.com software and click "about stamps.com" and you'll see your postal license number.

This is the same concept as requesting a postage refund in stamps.com except this is the reverse.

I'd like to add that my above post is only true if you are buying shipping through eBay or Amazon directly ^^^

That's great and all but if we are shipping via Ebay there is no account.....so in the end it won't matter or work for stealth.

if you use some kind of account, USPS will use that account to either refund or charge the extra owed.

The only way I can explain it if u use Fedex/UPS shipping on Amazon. If UPS audits the package and says you owe more, you are then charged the difference. Its taken from your Amazon account.

If you purchase a label from paypal/ebay, and USPS audits your package and says you owe more, why cant they simply charge you the difference?

Fedex works this way on ebay BUT Fedex charges ebay and ebay adjusts your fees.

Lol, trust me I get it.....-the point I was trying to make is that an account is going to be required. Best solution is to put the correct weight and pay the correct postage. Those who got away with paying less are not going to get away anymore.
