yes it probably is on hold because of thanksgiving... tomorrow you will be able to see if it is released or if they tried to contact you.
Usually DHL tracking notes are quite detailed.

This happens all the time, specifically on weekends or holidays because delivery trucks do not operate on these days. Shipment on Hold is not the same thing as Clearance Delay...everyone keeps confusing these terms.

The IMPORTANT part of all that info is: 2011-11-23 22:20:18 Clearance processing complete at GATEWAY,CA-USA
This means that your package CLEARED Customs. They could still pull it back, but that is unlikely. The most likely reason for the shipment being on hold is the Thanksgiving Holiday. My guess is that you will see movement tomorrow.

Thanks god! Man I have too much stuff in that shipment to have it being seized by customs.
Report back later today as it usually says out for delivery or departure around 5am

Either what jeffweico said or that you might have to pay some fees? Always says shipment on hold on UK parcels when you need to pay taxes or import duty, once paid changes to out for delivery.
Let us know if you get it

So, if my package states that clearance processing is complete, and THEN it is put on hold I should be okay, right?

Customs CAN, until the package is actually delivered, recall the package. But that almost never happens.
Many shippers in China use a third party to handle and process their packages for export. They pay the third party, and the thrid party pays DHL and whatever else. It is NOT unheard of for the third party to have a payment hiccup with DHL. When that happens, the shipments are all held until they resolve the matter. This has happened to me twice. The GOOD NEWS is that the matter is almost always resolved quickly. If that were to happen, expect a 24-72 hour delay. Again, it is unlikely.

| I had 2 packages about 6 months ago clear DHL in Cincinnati and arrive at the sort facility in my state about 100 miles from where I live.
Tracking info on DHL site said they had arrived at the sort facility, which in the past means that later that day or the next day I will have them. In both cases the next day the tracking site said "contact DHL" and in both case they were seized after they had cleared customs and were literally sitting waiting to get loaded on the truck that would bring them to me.
So at least in my case it happened twice in about a 2 week period, but not sure if this is the scenario that you were talking about.
In the past whenever I saw that it had left Cincinnati I thought I was home free.

And I am not CERTAIN of why it happens, but I think they end up finding something later on they REALLY do not like in the same shipment - like counterfeit drugs or something. Again, this is just my THEORY. It has never happened to me and I have heard about it only on rare occasions.
Once clearance processing is ciomplete is is 97% safe. It is only 100% safe when you are holding it in your hands.

Boy, aren't I the lucky one then to have it happen twice in less than 2 weeks?
I should add that both packages came from the same seller, but to two different addresses in different cites to different names

Exactly. It's not necessarily any fault of your own package's contents, they just won't risk anything coming in from that shipping agency after something is discovered. To what level or how serious do the contents have to be? That's what none of us will know without inside help.

I doubt the whole drug theory though. I've used the same supplier forever, and never had a package seized, sans the ONE TIME my supplier shipped DHL instead of EMS without telling me before shipped it out.

Your supplier isn't the person who actually ships the goods to you. They use third party company's to handle all the shipping. So if a package with that company's DHL # is found to have something that customs does not like then every package that has that number can get recalled for inspection.

And some agents will signed a contract with the shipping company, which like DHL ,ems ,hkems etc., and the agents will get very lowest discount from the shipping company and will pay the shipping cost monthly. So if the shipping company not pay the bill on time sometimes ,this will delay the packages until the payment done to their account. But this is not happen too often.
