Every time. At least a month after getting the parcel.

Can be a DHL speciality to invoice like this.

Usually sorted with a phone call.

What people forget is its Invoice + DHL Shipping charges.

So if you have a box delivered with only $45 USD Value, and it gets charged by customers, saying shipping according to DHL is $100, that also gets added onto the VAT Charges.

I wouldn't bump them for the charges, you will never get another package from DHL again until they are paid, and if they are in your own name they will send their dept collection agency after you and wreck your credit.

The charges are levied by Customs & Excise not DHL, they only collect them on behalf of HMRC.

Therefore it would not be DHL you are bumping so not a wise option to take as HMRC take a very dim view when fees are not paid.

I was under the impression that DHL pay HMRC and then get it back from you as well as a bit extra as a service charge.

On a side note, they charged me for a parcel that was a gift too. It was baby clothes sent by family in China when my son was born, hand-made by his grandmother, but they would not give an inch. I had a letter from a collection agency and had no option but to pay up. We have said to them not to send anything using DHL now.

Yes they do

however its up to HMRC to make the VAT charges, the problem from china is can you imagine how many people try to send packages as Gift (that are not really gifts) to avoid customs charges,

if you really want the avoid them and are not in a rush your best bet is EMS as alot tend to get though the cracks and not get charged but be warned its SLOW!!!. Had packages sit in Customs for over 3 weeks before cleared EMS.

I have a good relationship with the courier so he always brings it as soon as it hits the depo.

I just pay online.

Most of the time parcels entering the UK have charges added to them before they even touch down.

I find that a lot of the time as well.

If you pay it far enough in advance sometimes items can skip the 24 wait-over time in the DHL warehouse, so its well worth doing.

Yea since i use DHL alot I have the account now with them and my mobile gets txtd as soon as the package hits Germany to pay on-line. I only usually end up paying around £10-£30 depending on the shipment. If I do it quick enough (same day as i get txt) it normally goes straight though when it hits the coastline and goes though customs very quickly and often is with me within 24-48hrs of reaching Germany!

I for the record absolutely love DHL! They are by far the best courier to use for importing goods! Not like EMS which is a joke!

Have to second that DHL are the best, I use them to import things from Singapore fairly often and I can order it Monday and have it by Thursday, which always amazes me since they sometimes beat Royal Mail when I have order things from the UK on the same day.

DHL are the best.

FedEX from my experience are the worst. Every time I use them I end up on the phone for some reason or another.

@forummember

I find the opposite.

Then I worked for FedEX so I guess they owe me.

Dont mention DHL to me! Used them with no problem for years. Then some invoices I paid them did not get added onto my account and they sent it to a debt collector. It was absolutely their fault but they never acknowledged it, apologized or offered me any compensation for the cost of phone calls, time and stress to sort it all out. They have no proper complaints procedure. I had to take them to the Financial Ombudsman in the end.
