Overcharged by UK customs, worth disputing?

I have ordered some vero goods from China. On the customs declaration the value was $50, but when the parcel was delivered I found that I have had to pay £60 VAT on top of £13.50 Parcelforce handling fee. When I heard this over the phone I was furious but Parcelforce told me that my only choice would be to pay, or the parcel will be returned to sender. However I can dispute the payment later with UK customs. I ended up reluctantly paying the fee.

I have got the correct form needed to dispute the payment, it says I should provide an invoice to prove the value.

I asked the supplier to send me an invoice, he has sent it, but it is not good quality. It is very simple and made on Excel. It hasn't got the suppliers name, address or phone number. Just the business name and email address.

Should I still go ahead and dispute the payment? Has anybody on here experienced the same problem?

Did you only pay $50 for the goods?

Sounds a bit fishy to me, but I don't deal with vero items so I might be just talking/thinking out of my arse here.

Just seems odd when your supplier produces invoice that makes even you question its basic value, in terms of a legal paper.
Also, if you buy for youself I kind of get it, but it you buy with hopes of reselling something VeRo that has no legit paperwork from supplier... Well I wouldn't try to claim against anybody in your situation.

Seems like a case of glass house, can't really throw stones in it, can you?

OP,

Which party decided on the declared value?

You or your special Friend?

If not you, then these are the consequences.
