China post am i likely to be charged export tax?

Hello i recently ordered a item from china via EMS my item was held for 4 days in customs i had to pay 20 pounds export tax plus 13.50 to ems.

is this likely to happen again if i order via China Post?

As it (like all packages entering most countries) must go through customs. So it might/likely will.

The carrier doesn't matter. Its the weight and item.

Of course it will happen again.

And it will happen again if YOU get fooled by your shipper into allowing them to underdeclare the items value for import.

On the other hand, if this was the shipper's mistake, and you are innocent, then find another shipper.

YOU, as the importer are responsible for ensuring duty is correctly done.

No 2 rule of Import Rules.

That depends on what the value of the goods you are importing is.

Always make sure that the correct value appears on the import invoice to ensure the correct amount of tax is paid.

The value of the items is around 70-100 pounds. So china post would be no different to ems? Is there a way I can pay import tax directly to hmrc or do I have to tell my supplier to stick on 20 quids worth of tax on it?

Definitely can happen again until you get to the ROOT of the issue - speak with your seller regarding declaration and such.

You see the declaration is not the problem. The items value is stated on the declaration is accurate the description all that is fine.

My problem is import tax which hmrc says is a tax everyone that is importing into the uk items from outside of the EU has to pay once the item arrives in the uk but before it os delivered.

Ok the problem with this you see is that ParcelForce or royal mail take over the parcels once they arrive in the uk and they are more then hapy to pay this tax for me to customs without notifying me so that I may be able to pay hmrc my self. And they pass the cost onto me plus a fee £13.50. I dont mind paying the export tax but I do not want to pay 13.50 to the post office for paying the tax for me without even giving me the option to pay hmrc the duty/tax myself.

I have emailed hmrc about how I can pay them the tax directly but have got no response yet. On the hmrc website they describe the above as comon practice but I think it is unfair.

Has anyone else that is importing from outside of the eu come across this? Any idea on how to get around this?
