Default How to handle new return system for exchange?

Buy requested a return because of a damaged item...

Hes going to return it and then im going to ship out a new one.

My question is what option do I choose under eBay returns? "accept return"? I'm not sure if the system will automatically issue a refund in that case?

Help?

I would not accept the return because I believe when you accept the return it will affect your defect rate so what I suggest doing is to contact the buyer, tell them to close the case and ship the item back, and only then should you provide them with tracking for the replacement. I'm certain that when a seller accepts a return their defect rate is affected but am not too certain that if a buyer closes a case it won't affect their defect rate.

Anyone else out there please feel free to chime on about the defect rate.

I was going to start a post about this. I sold a used item that i 100% back up and can easily exchange out. I don't have time for this stupid case to affect my rating.

"<ebay buyer> let us know that something is wrong with<Title Description of ebay item> As a result, they requested to return the item for a refund.

Next steps:

See the request details and be sure to reply to the buyer by Dec 17, 2014. Starting on that day, the buyer can ask us to step in and help by opening a case - this can affect your seller level.

Note that if you accept a return, you'll be charged for return shipping because the buyer mentioned that something's wrong with the item. "

When ebay mentions that it CAN affect your rating does this mean it has not? Ebay has been playing around with this for the past few months that included the buyer being able to contact seller before opening a SNAD case. This being a RETURN automatically affect the seller's defect rating. So what the beans is going on? I want this resolved and NOT show up as a defect.

Yes 100% make sure you have physical possesion of the item if your not going threw eBays return system! Alot of new sellers or sellers uneducated will "trust" the buyer and send refund before them actually shipping them the item, if you do this consider that refund a gift.

Do you have to do anything with the case?

Will it just expire? I dont want eBay to jump in and issue a refund when I ship out a replacement.

Also make sure you have access to the return address on the stealth since ebay now generates a return label when you accept the return.

They are still giving the option if a seller accepts a return , than you have the option to pay for eBays return Postage or you can send the buyer your own paid postage

So I had a couple returns and chose I would send the postage, so after accepting the return I chose Id provide postage, and Id contact the buyer and email them my one location I been using for all returns, I guess because it's all paid and created the buyer just prints the postage out and tapes to the box, no one questioned what address I had on the postage , and than when I received the item I issued full refund

However it's been really busy this month so once I see the tracking say the item is in transit Id refund the buyer, it's only been twice and I didn't mention Id do that so they always were real quick to return the item

NYC , yes, it affect your DSR & return closes once seller issue a refund. I went through this w/ one 1 item. This new return system is really bad. Now buyer don't contact seller about return/refund. Buyers simply open return case & we seller get the affect.

What if buyer close cases and seller issues refund through PayPal?

Cant you just opt out of Ebays return process? Or will this increase the amount of opened cases?

I just had a message saying one of my buyers is returning an item. 0 Feedback newbie that did not bother to message me of any problems. I did not have an option to provide the buyer with a return label like DMShark had?

After messaging the buyer I got him to close it out (I said I would overnight another item for him and gave him the tracking number. (This is on a $4 item by the way) He closed it right away.

Will I still get a defect for him opening a return on me?

I dont understand how Ebay lets buyers open cases without having to message the sellers 1st. It should be mandatory you must communicate with the buyer before opening a case or return!! Such BS

Even if you don't accept the return it still counts as a defect 90% of the time sadly.

Yes, Pno507, unfortunately, return counts against seller DSR, I know Ebay is going out of track day by day with all the new policies and rules.. It just BS ...

How are people work with this with stealth address? You know before I would just get an email then I would say send here (my p.o. box for all returns) to exchange or whatever. Now I have my semi foo foo stealth address coming up.

Just curious? I just paid for a second box online tonight. Going to probably use that for all stealth's. I don't want anything linking back to my main "legit" account.

I clicked on the send buyer message button (not the accept return button) in the case page. I then reply by telling the buyer my address to return item (which is different to address I have told eBay) and to use the return label enclosed with the parcel.
Does anyone know if doing it this way still gives a defect?
Apparently if you choose return parcel option ebay takes money out of your paypal!

I've also left bits out of the address that ebay have so buyers won't use it.
