Default Advice RE PayPal dispute

I sold a Levis jacket for friend for a really nice amount and the buyer who purchased it lives in Spain.

They paid on October 11th (Sunday) and I shipped on October 12th (Monday)via Internatinal Signed For with Royal Mail.

The item reached Spain on the 13th and has been in transit ever since.

The problem - eBay had told the buyer that the item would arrive on October 19th (I really wish they wouldn't hand out 'estimated delivery' times).

The buyer has now opened a dispute with PayPal, not a claim yet. They haven't opened anything on eBay yet either. But I have a feeling I'm working with someone who will be unreasonable about this.

I could not have shipped any faster and I have pleaded with both the buyer and PayPal about this.

What are ny chances? If the buyer escalates to a claim or opens a case dirctly on eBay, would they take notice that the item is still in transit? or would they (like I suspect) refund the buyer even though the item is still in transit?

If they refunded and then the item arrived, would they reverse the refund?

I feel really bad for my friend as I can't afford to pay him the money he may lose out of my own pocket.

No one can really advise you on this or estimate what your chances are. These types of case can go either way. Upload the tracking and wait.

If it goes the buyer's way and then the tracking shows delivered, phone them up to see if you can get it reversed. Until it shows delivered everything is in the buyer's favour,

Well I've just been told by eBay that if a buyer opens a dispute with PayPal, they can't then open a case with eBay. It's an either/or situation apparently.

So it looks like I've got to hope PayPal see my side of this...

If you have tracking, then why not contact the customer directly and see whats up? Some people who shop online find it easier to contact PP or EBay directly only because they have previously experienced bad service or slow response time.

I've never had a customer who is so impatient, but its worth contacting them directly and provide them with shipping infor and tracking- Clearly they can see where the item is at and they can follow it along the way, with hopes of calming him down?

I have sadly had to deal with very impatient people. Once, a buyer purchased something on a Friday night just before a Bank Holiday weekend and complained when it hadn't arrived on the Tuesday! They opened a case, I got a defect that can't be removed and all because they don't know that you can't post items out over a Bank Holiday weekend!

The daft thing is, the buyer in this case did contact me directly at around 2am and opened a case shortly after. They didn't give me a chance to respond.

I have contacted them but received no reply as of yet.

I even checked the tracking number with their local post office in Spain and it still says 'in transit' but it also says that the package has been available for collection from the Post Office since October 16th.

So I've aksed the buyer to get in touch with their local sorting/post office and see if they are holding it.

Just waiting for a reply. And hopefully, the language barrier isn't getting in the way and they understand what I'm telling them.

How much feedback does this buyer have? Because i am sure he would have bought from ebay UK more than once and is trying to get a free item out of you.

What does his feedback he leaves for others sellers look like?

The buyer only has 9 feedbacks. Not sure what they've said about other sellers. I feel this is someone very inexperienced.

The item has arrived now. The buyer has confirmed the delivery and I can see it on the Spanish Post Office website. But it's not being updated with Royal Mail and they haven't left me feedback either.

I've asked the buyer to close the PayPal dispute and they haven't answered me. Bit stuck.

They never do, because if it works out in their favour, they get the item and money back. They will just let the case run its course.

Been so many of them lately.

At this stage, it's just a dispute. It hasn't been escalated to a claim. PayPal say that a dispute will automatically close 20 days after it's been opened if the buyer doesn't escalate.

So if it closes automatically, I assume the funds will be released?

Indeed.

But still dosent stop a potential chargeback in the future.
